Guest guest
I'm 63 years old, and an asthmatic since age 9. My first mycotoxin reaction was 7 years ago. Here is the relationship between asthma- mycotoxins-albuterol, in my body. (1) My asthma reaction to mold and my toxic mold reaction are two different things, that usually co- exist in my body, at the same time. (2) As a long time asthmatic, I misinterpreted my first toxic mold reaction as being an asthmatic reaction. (3) Upon my seeing the massive amount of mold, in the building I worked in, I realized the physical feeling that I was dying, came from my exposure to the mold. At THAT time, I assumed that I was allergic to the mold, and my allergy was causing asthma, even though I was experiencing additional symptoms that I had never in my life had before. (4) BEFORE I saw the mold, and quit the job, I had been taking an ever increasing dose of albuterol (never exceeding the maximum dosage in the Physicians PDR Manual). But, to my amazement, the albuterol only PARTIALLY relieved my breathing symptoms, and did NOTHING for the other symptoms I was experiencing, no matter how high I raised my dosage. (5) Since I had not had ANY non-breathing related symptoms, before I started working in that building, one month previously, I went searching for the mold, which I found, in my work building. In hindsight, I should have just left the building, WITHOUT searching for the mold. This is why my blood boils, when I read all the postings on this board of people SEARCHING for their mold. WAKE UP! You don't have to find your mold- IT HAS ALREADY FOUND YOU!!!! Just run away fast. (6) After leaving my mold infested workplace, I began feeling my symptoms begin getting better within 4 or 5 days, and after about one month, all of my non-breathing symptoms had disappeared, and my asthma breathing symptoms had returned to their traditional level for that season of the year. As it was summer, and pollen allergies are one of my primary asthma triggers, I always have breathing problems at that time of the year. But, as usual, for that time of the year, my abuterol NOW relieved my breathing symptoms 100%, until my next regular dose of albuterol had to be taken. REMEMBER, my total time period of mold exposure was only 8 to 10 hours a day, 5 days a week, for 30 days. (7) The point I'm making, is, if you have a pre- existing asthma condition BEFORE your mold exposure, the asthma will become WORSE during your period of mold exposure. The " non-mold- aware " medical professionals will try to use that worsening of your asthma, to convince you that ALL YOU HAVE IS ASTHMA! To do this, they will tell you to take the Methacholine Challenge Test, that has been the subject of many postings on this board. If you had a pre- mold exposure asthma condition, this test will confirm their diagnosis, and when you tell them that you have a toxic mold reaction, in addition to your asthma, they will enter a further notation, that you are " delusional " on your medical record. (8) If you did NOT have a pre-existing asthma condition, BEFORE your mold exposure, the same test is equally pointless, as the conventional medical treatment for asthma-caused breathing problems and non- asthma caused breathing problems, is THE SAME. The treatment of acute breathing distress is albuterol with atrovent(ipratropium bromide) added on if the problem includes phlegm in your lungs. And, if that fails, they add on prednisone. Prednisone is the doctor's way of saying: " I have no idea of what is causing your immune system to malfunction, so lets just turn off your body's immune-reaction, completely, with prednisone. " Don't misunderstand me. THE PREDNISONE DOES WORK. But, if you are still in the mold environment, after the prednisone wears off, you get sick again. (9) Since I like happy endings, I will share my happy ending with you all. My recurring mold exposures, over the last 7 years, have turned me into such a compulsive, mold hunter, mold finder, and mold eliminator, in my home environment, that, in the process of making my home as mold- free as possible, I have also made my home so allergen-free, that my albuterol dosage requirements are at an all time low. Start throwing things out, and feeling healthier, as an asthmatic. (10) One last thing. Please stop posting the false notion that exposure to mold will help us build up an immunity to mold. I'm getting tired of punching my wall, every time I read that. Thank you, and may you all find your happy endings. Joe
