Guest guest
From: Sent: Sunday, December 10, 2006 5:37 AM Subject: [] OT:flu season remedies Cold -fX. Hi Everyone, Just wondered what all of you do for the flu season to protect yourselves. Many of you here are like my kids and your body cannot tolerate the flu. Funny thing, since exposure they have not had one cold. My daughter hasn't gotten the flu either. Nothing since 2001. But, my son when he gets the flu ends up in the hospital for several days it is really bad for him. I do the Vit C/Echinacea/good diet. This year I am looking at " Airborne. " It is suppose to work really great, all natural. Just thought maybe some of you could tell us what you do. Old remedies, things that are soothing. Also, I thought it might help others in the group to have some new ideas.
Guest guest
Hi , Although " Airborne " has a good combination of vitamins and herbs and might legally be called " natural " , it also contains Sucralose (aka Splenda) from the labels I've read (I would love to hear if someone has found it without this ingredient), and I personally avoid that as I've read that it is a neurotoxin. You can google sucralose on mercola.com and find lots of info in regards to this and here's a website that discusses this: http://www.holisticmed.com/splenda/ with the conclusion being: " Conclusion While it is unlikely that sucralose is as toxic as the poisoning people are experiencing from Monsanto's aspartame, it is clear from the hazards seen in pre-approval research and from its chemical structure that years or decades of use may contribute to serious chronic immunological or neurological disorders. " For my family, I've had excellent luck with Sambucol (and not the sugar free variety) for my kids at the first sign of a scratchy throat. I give this to them in the morning when they have a sore throat and tell them if they still feel bad at noon to call me from school. They've never had to call me and they usually tell me at the end of the school day that the sore throat is gone. There have been a couple times where the sore throat has persisted, but usually a few days of the sambucol clears it (I've never given it more than 3 days in a row). Sambucol contains elderberry extract, which is supposed to be good for the immune system. Since it also contains raspberry extract, to which I am allergic, for myself I just directly add some elderberry extract to water. We also use zinc lozenges (up to 5 a day at the first sign of a cold). We also regularly use the Emer-gen-C packets which have lots of vitamin C and B vitamins. For myself, I will add the Nasal wash: http://www.iherb.com/store/productdetails.aspx?c=Herbs & pid=HIP-60004 to my neti pot and usually two round of that seems to keep the bad stuff away. And, I also believe in chicken soup. Here's my favorite recipe: http://www.gardenoflife.com/wol_recipe_brasco_broth.shtml Be well, B -------------- Original message -------------- From: " " <eaglestone@...> Hi Everyone, Just wondered what all of you do for the flu season to protect yourselves. Guest guest
Thank you for sharing your thoughts. I believe in chicken noodle soup also. Have to try your favorite recipe too. We also use EmergencyC. Using a product w/spenda in it doesn't bother me, if it keeps my son out of the hospital. It isn't like he will be eating cups of it. But, is always good to hear everyone's opinions and ingredients that are in certain products so we can make a better decision. There have been products that I have learned about in this group that we now stay away from because of ingred. if not for open opinions I would have never known. So, thank you for sharing it me and everyone else here. I have never heard of Sambucol, now I will do some research on that-maybe that is an option also. Also, very interested in this nasal wash stuff all of you have been talking about w/the " Neti " pot. Never heard of that either. That's why I brought the topic up. With all the people on this group there should be plenty of replies and suggestions so that everyone can learn and stay healthier over the winter. Guest guest
It can be DILUTED and made into a water based homeoapthic . Knowing how reactive I am to things, I know when I make up homeoapthics for myself, I am not as precise as companies..but, I have diluted remedies for those who can not tolerate for example ethano. WIth dilutions they can take it without any side effects. Guest guest
I've never done the dilutions myself and always take the product as is. Would you estimate that you could put one of the pellets in 4oz of distilled water and then take just one teaspoon and still get the same effect? -------------- Original message -------------- From: Angel says NO MORE 2 Clarins <jap2bemc@...> It can be DILUTED and made into a water based homeoapthic . Guest guest
Revisiting an old topic. I had a runny nose last week and was concerned since I had been to alot of crowded stores and also mold count was up due to mild weather we have been having. Since I didn't have neti pot in new apartment I just moved to, I put a pan of water to boil, threw some salt and baking soda into it and breathed that in until my sinuses were so damp I had to blow and after that runny nose was gone and hasn't come back, so another way to flush germs and allergens out of nose. I would like to experiment with putting GSE or Oregano or other antimicrobial in the water pan and see if it will vaporize and I can inhale those. I imagine even though I used salt, since sodium is a mineral and probably pretty heavy, it probably was left in the pan and I did not inhale any salt....guessing but that is how they make distilled water right, all the minerals stay behind. I think it helped for two reasons, one it acted as a flush in that it got water high up into sinuses until they were so damp I had to blow which probably carried the irritants out...like my nose was TRYING to do by running...that's why your nose runs, to try to flush out what is bothering it, so you are just helping your body do what it is trying to do...that would make it 'naturopathy'. Second the hot steam brought temperature up in sinuses which probably all by itself killed some pathogens, something your nose can't do on it's own but your body runs a temperature for this very reason, to kill pathogens...reason you should NOT take an aspirin when you get low grade fever is that you thwart your own immune systems ability to get rid of pathogens. I'm off the subject but you only need an aspirin to bring down a very high temperature since very high temperatures kill brain cells, can cause brain damage and if continues to kill you. Just thought I'd add that after putting aspirin down, in case someone didn't know that. > > Thank you for sharing your thoughts. I believe in chicken noodle soup also. Have to try your favorite recipe too. We also use EmergencyC.
