Guest guest
The NYC Dept of Health has some good guidelines for mold inspection, but then they run into landlords and co-op boards who throw a zillion obstacles in their face. The situation in NYC is a lot like that in San Francisco where older people - people whose incomes are not as upwardly mobile as the young, invariably professional college-educated people who are replacing them, often have been in apartments for at least five or ten years and often pay rents that are tied to the Consumer Price Index while the market rate for housing is increasing at ten, fifteen, twenty percent or even more a year. This means that people who have lived in an apartment for more than a few years are so much less profitable that a landlord can make hundreds or often (in New York) thousands of dollars more a month if they can be convinced to move out.. somehow.. Since mold poisoning is 'legal'.. and mold 'is harmless' well... So much for the golden years.. huh?
