Some people/kids can tolerate much more Dmsa/Ala than others, agreeing with that starting with 25 mgs of Dmsa/Ala would have knocked our girl out, but some kids can take a lot of it, it's individual.

If you get any side effects at all, just cut back, if you continue to see improvements, don't touch the dose.

Re: Anyone doing chelation together with TCM

There is a document in the files section of Autism-Mercury yahoo groupthat is by Andy Culter, dated 2001 that states the following:"DMSA changes the side effect profile of ALA and also acceleratesdetox by 30-40%. DMSA must be given no less often than every 4 hoursand it is best to give it with the ALA for convenience. DMPS may alsobe used orally in combination with ALA. Subjectively this leads to amuch lower side effect profile. DMPS must be administered no lessoften than every 8 hours. Administration with every other ALA dose issuggested for simplicity.Reasonable dosages are 1/8 to 1/2 mg per pound for each of ALA,DMSA and DMPS. There is no need for any specific ratio between them –most people adjust their ALA dosage up and down to find alevel where side effects aren't bothersome and then stay at thatdosage. Since toxin removal goes as the square root of chelator dosethere is no reason to tolerate substantial side effects in order tohurry things along. "--penumbra>> Just an FYI, we also do cutler chelation and he recommends starting > 1/8-1/4 mg dmsa.. My six year old is on 5 mg every 4 hrs.
