Guest guest
I had homeguard do one of my houses for subterranean termites. I highly recommend them. They put out bait stations so their was no toxic barrier treatments. I love the bait concept with roaches and ant's as well because you draw them to the poison rather than spray them and yourself in the process. Homeguard uses boric acid for dry wood termites. They have a very good guarantee on their service because the boric acid works long after the application unlike tenting does. They sell bait stations with pieces of wood that are laced with insecticides. The termite's supposedly take these chemicals back to the nest and kill the queen which does away with the entire colony. The conundrum for the pest control industry is this could wipe out the goose that lays the golden eggs. So they prefer the barrier treatments that just deter the termites away from your house only for a few years and in the mean time into your neighbors houses. They generally don't kill the colony's either. Their is a product called " TERMIDOR " which supposedly does but I am dubious. The golden goose thing. They have to be very careful not to make the urban termite an endangered species. Home depot and other retailers " do it yourself " pest control sell these bait stations, and boric acid treatments. If I were to be selling my house I would go with homeguard though. Tvedten from " Safe 2 Use " at: http://www.safe2use.com/sitemap.htm Recommended Homeguard to me. They were about 30% cheaper than a competitors bid and the warranty was transferable and even though the house was riddled with termites I was able to sell it. I think they were around $800 this was 8 years ago though. That $800 was well worth the burden they lifted off of my shoulders. And they did it without harming anyone with dangerous barrier treatments. I don't know how effective boric acid is on subterranean termites. I would prefer the bait stations. But as long as whoever is performing the service guarantee's it and it's transferable I guess it does not matter. Not sure weather boric acid kills the queen (subterranean queens I believe stay underground) but I would think no. That is probably why the PCO'S prefer this type of treatment. I believe it would for dry wood termites though. >However boric >acid doesn't kill a whole colony does it? I could have a service do >it with a guarantee. I will cost me 1k though.
