They supplied Tryny's pediasure until he was 3 ( 3/4's of it and his insurance picked up the rest). Then after 3 the insurance took over completely. Tryny just " experiments " with food, he never really eats. There are some days and even weeks that he doesn't put anything in his mouth. But to me his gaining weight (and boy is he doing that - he now weighs 42 3/4 pounds) and his nutrician intake is the most important thing. Someday maybe he will learn to enjoy eating ( but without having very many tastbuds that work, that may be something he'll never really enjoy), and if so, we'll work on teaching him that eating is a social thing later. But the way we look at it is that Tryny has far more important medical issues to deal with, so eating by mouth isn't top on our priority list right now ( and with all his food allergies being so severe, it's also safer this way too). I've been reading all the letters about the " night feedings " and I must really be the " odd man out " as I prefer the night feedings ( it frees Tryny up during the day since he only has to be pumped twice daily - an hour each time), and he chooses the times by telling me he wants his milk. And I tape his tubing to his stomach and down his leg at night, so we have very little trouble with him pulling it out anymore. The way I look at it is that at night, he's sleeping anyway, so why not. This way he isn't restricted by having to sit so many times daily to get his milk. Guest guest
Debra- We have WIC in IL, but we don't qualify. I've had them investigate up to the state level to make sure there weren't any loopholes we're missing. Can you suggest any tricks to get insurance to cover Pediasure? We're just beginning our letter-writing campaign. I've also got a call in to the Ross sales rep to see if there's anything he can do to help. I agree about night feedings. I prefered them for Aubrie too cuz they left us with a " normal " day. Thank goodness that chapter is closed for us. I'm thrilled that Aubrie is totally oral now. If I could get the Pediasure paid for, I would rest easy and let her come into eating food on her own. I'm sure she will someday. I'd rather not feel financial pressure to make it sooner than later. Guest guest
, A friend of mine got her oral pediasure covered by the ins by having her peditrician write a letter stating that it was the child's main source of nutrition even tho it was given orally. Good luck, you're where we were 5 years ago when Aari was on Nutramigen til he was over two and our ins wouldn't cover it either. Casey charge@... minnow@... Mom to Dawn 20, Ken 9 ADHD, and 7 CHARGE.
