Jackie, even with hepa vaccumm you get enough exhaust dust to catch in

pantyhose. I use pantyhose for wash machine water filter but it

should only catch pretty large size dust particles. I may try it just

to see what comes out of the exhaust on vaccumm. In this case, I

think is helping me to catch the smallest of particles, esp

microbial life to the outside but when I am using vacuum regularly in

house, I may try that. Thanks

I am sure the panty hose thing is not the best remendy to catch dust

and etc but it tends to help better than nothing. I am sure Jeff's way

is better but I got lost in understanding it. I have been really ill

so I am not all here right now.

Hi Jackie. If your method catching anything, it saves it from being

redeposited in house so good idea. Jeff and others recommend the

outside vacuum as best if you can do it. It's like those carpet

cleaning services that the vacuum is actually outside in truck and

they just bring a very, very long accordian shaped suction hose in

to clean with, only you would be making your own. You set the

vaccum cleaner outside or shop vac and run suction hose in through

closest window or door to room you are going to vaccumm. This is

for a first time vacuuming of really dirty things, like 'move-in

vaccumming' or 'remediation vacuumning'. I don't think it would be

necessary for everyday type of vaccumming UNLESS your house

currently has a mold problem. Then it would be better to

temporarily get out of house until active mold problem has been

stopped.

The particles that are causing everybody so many problems are the tiniest of

particles, so small that they

even go through HEPA filters which are basically filtering down to 1 micron

or so. Thats much smaller than the human eye can see. No mesh filter like

stockings is going to make even the slightest bit of difference to particles

that small. If your vacumn cleaner is letting big stuff through that is then

caught in the nylon 'filter' then it is probably broken or needs repair as

it's not filtering dust out! Its just blowing it around, which would

probably be so unhealthy that it would make anybody sick, not just mold-sick

folks like us.

You need to get another vacumn. Or check the way your vacumn bags are

installed, as they are definitely not working.

To give you an idea of how big of a difference a good vacumn makes, my

vacumn cleaner is a sealed HEPA type that is so good that the area around

its bag is only visibly dusty when I have not changed the bag in a long

time. However, the bag catches lots of dust. There is a very good seal

around the neck of the bag and it has two layers, then, after that there is

a HEPA filter, which is still white, even after months of use. However, I

still get sick sometimes when I or my wife vacumns even for a short time,

especially if we don't have fans on in the windows.

So the stuff that is making me sick is TINY. very tiny. much too small to

see. So if you are catching stuff in a nylon stocking, then you have a lot

of room for improvement in how you vacumn.

Panty hose are very versitile. I heard you can even use them on the

end of a diesel pump to filter the fuel.

I have not seen anything come out of my exhaust prior to doing the

panyhose thing, I just started doing this as a little extra

protection. I have not seen anything in the panty hose at all. If

there is anything, it might be dust too small for me to see.
