Rhonda, I didn't have any hair fall out but another coworker in my building

did. The mycotoxins affect everyone differently. It may be the coloring but

I doubt it.

Sue

How many members here have had their hair fall out? Mine has slowly

but surely been leaving me and clogging my bathtub drain. My sis told

me months ago I had half the hair I had before and breaking off. She

thought from hair color but I have colored my hair for 6 or so years

and I think it is from mycotoxins.

While staying out of work, I have washed hair but no blow drying and no

curling iron and only used coloring with no amonia but what else is in

that crap who knows. I do not have a lot of gray but not going to have

any period but I don't want to be bald if coloring is part of my

problem. I do think the myco's are the culprit but hair color is

torture to hair also. I do realize now to just color the roots then do

the rest for a short period. Dumb me put color all over for 30 minutes

but why it took 6 years to freak my hair if coloring who knows. I

think it is myco's contributing. Today is a bad day with another

front. So sick of IT.

Hey Rhonda,

I really don't know how old you are but mine started falling out at 29. You are

very lucky your hair is just starting to fall out. My has been falling out for

over 11 years. Way before any exposure. The tub drain is full of it, the

bathroom floor is full of it, brushes are full, it's like I snow hair. The kids

say I shed like a dog. My husband says I should make rugs and sell them. My

hair is also much thinner than before, but I just relate it to growing older,

changing hormones. Can't relate mine to exposure. No one else in my families

is falling out. I am the privileged one. hehehehe

Hi Rhonda,

With my first mold exposure, my hair actually got healthier. I now

believe it was due to the high doses of predisone I was on at that

time. However, there might be one of many reasons your hair is

falling out. As a licensed barber and cosmetologist, I might be able

to help with a few suggestions. Being I have not actually seen your

hair, I can only make a mere guess so, take what you can use and

leave the rest.

If you think you may have a fungus in your scalp, which can be caused

from mold exposure, you will need to use a special prescription

shampoo from a dermatologist. You can try Head and Shoulders first

but it is best to go to the doctor when losing huge amounts of hair.

Hair lost can be a sign of several minor or serious conditions. Low

thyroid is one of them, for example. This is why you really need to

see a doctor to make sure you are not deficient in any thing and rule

out any serious condition.

There is a wonderful amino acid supplement that my dermatologist

recommends. I can't think of the name of it right off the bat...I

took it for many years. I am thinking it is called " Formula 50. "

Also, some people will lose hair when body is lacking one or more of

the B vitamins. Especially women after giving birth. I also suggest

to clients to take a complete B-50 formula along with a good protein

if they are having dull or losing hair. One needs to be balanced in

all of the " B " vitamins so just taking one particular " B " is not good

enough. Many folks with hair issues will only take biotin because it

is a known hair vitamin but it is even better to take a proper level

of all B vitamins.

Some of the color that has no ammonia is even more damaging to the

hair than color with ammonia. Those enzymes colors are pretty rough

on the hair. Even some temp colors wreak havoc on the hair shaft.

When color is applied properly, there should not be any

damage...well; any chemical will damage the hair, got to have a small

amount of damage to get the look we want. If hair chemicals are

applied properly, you should not be losing hair from it due to

damage. One thing we all need to remember, as we age, no matter how

old a person, the hair changes and so does the need to change the

chemical formula one is using on the hair. This is one reason why it

is best to go to a professional stylist who has a broad knowledge and

experience in chemical applications. All hair is different and

requires different levels of peroxide and etc. Take me for example; I

can't use the drug store brands as they are too strong and damaging

to my hair. I use a very low volume of peroxide. I use 10 volume;

this would not penetrate the hair on most people to give a nice lift

as well as deposit. People have different hair, not all chemicals

work properly on everyone's hair.

I tend to side with your sister about the color. Most people don't

have hair that is tough enough to let color sit on the part of the

hair that already has color on it. Professionals might pull the

color through for 1-3 minutes but never for 30 minutes. Putting

color on top of color is very damaging. This is called over

lapping. One thing, how long is your hair? If you have very long

hair, it may have taken awhile for this damage to finally happen,

especially if you have very very strong tough health hair. Most

people's hair would not make it past the 30 minutes if theirs was

overlapped! I am surprised you were able to do this for 6 years. If

you kept it short, it could be you kept most of the damage cut off

and it was less noticeable. As I said, I can only guess as I don't

know anything about your hair personally. It is always best to apply

the color to the roots only. If the rest of the hair needs to be

refreshed, take the remaining color and only leave on for 1-3

minutes. This works for those with normal, for folks with wimpy hair

like mine, it is best to not even pull it though, just do the roots

and leave the rest alone.

One thing I keep cringing on this group is when people say they put

peroxide, ammonia and other chemicals on the hair to kill mold. If

one has such a problem with mold in their hair, it would be best to

just cut it all off because damaging the hair will do just that, cut

it by breakage. All of those household and other kinds of chemicals

to kill mold in the hair is really not necessary and can be more

dangerous to ones health (and hair) than the mold. I am speaking from

my experience as a hairstylist and as one who suffers from a major

case of mold exposure. One thing, if one suspects they have mold in

their hair, they need to start washing it daily with a good

antifungal shampoo, and make sure it dries within 3 hours. If it

does not dry in 3 hours, use a hair dryer. Mold comes from

dampness. Have any of you ever smelled hair that was left wet for

days in rollers and smelled like a dish rag?? Using strong chemicals

in the hair is *not* the answer to resolving a mold problem with the

hair. One can use a rinse of one part vinegar and 3 part water to

help with a suspected mold problem. Just remember, even vinegar tends

to be drying. If anyone wants to work on " moldy " hair, just purchase

a dandruff shampoo such as Head and Shoulders and use a dilated

vinegar rinse. One thing, I was very sensitive to vinegar during my

mold exposure so one needs to be careful.. I have been a hair

stylist for a long long time and I have never seen anyone with a mold

issue in their hair. I have seen scalps that were diseased. I have

seen scalps with issues due to medication, illnesses, surgeries and

etc but not from mold exposure with a few exceptions of scalp fungus.

I have known and see folks with mold exposures, they bath and wash

their hair and dry it daily, and the mold is not an issue in their

hair. If one takes a daily bath and shampoos the hair daily, the

mold should not be a major issue in the hair. When being exposed to

mold, one really needs to stay as clean as possible, period, hair and

all... I got off the main point here...sorry about my rant but I have

been meaning to post about this any way. People putting all of that

harsh stuff in their hair really drives me nuts! Professionally

speaking, I would never suggest or endorse some of the stuff I have

read that people put on their hair. It just freaks me out!

Here are my suggestions for hair loss:

1. First of all see a doctor to make sure this is not a physical

issue.

2. Follow a good diet and take recommended supplements and a

multivitamin. Exercise is great as it gets the blood flowing to that

scalp.

3. Stop " overlapping " chemicals. This goes for perms, color,

relaxers, any chemical treatment should not be placed on top of the

other. ONLY treat or color the roots.

4. Purchase a good Shampoo and conditioner. For breaking hair, I

suggest Nexxus Therappe. In my 25 years of hairstyling, I have used

many great professional brands but I always go back to this one for

dry or damage hair. Lately I got some Pantene on sale with coupons

for like 50 cents! Being a stylist, I always use the professional

products. I never liked the Pantene line but I must say, the Pantene

Restoratives is an excellent drug store brand! Try the " Breakage

Control " line. I don't like the Pantene Ice everyone is raving

about, the shampoo is too drying. If one has ethnic hair, I suggest

the Cream de Nature line but the Nexxus is great on ethnic hair as

well. There is a really good ethnic line, which I have used on my

hair but I can't spell them name of it..It starts with an M and is a

line JC Penny's hair salon use to endorse. This line might be too

much moisture for normal hair.

For a conditioner, I still like the Nexxus Humctress. One can even

use a pea size as a leave in on the ends. I also like the Infusion

leave-ins; this is very good for breaking hair.

For breaking hair, a once a week strengthing protein (plus) treatment

is a must. I suggest the Nexxus Emergencee. Follow up with a

moisturizing conditioner as a protein treatment can be drying as well

as damaging...sometimes too much of a good thing is not so good, so

limit protein treatments once a week.

For leave in conditioner, I like the infusion as the leave in along

with Redken Extreme Anti-Snap. I also love the Bio Silk leave in. It

has real silk proteins.

To sum it up, use a good moisturizing shampoo, moisturizing

conditioner following the shampoo. After rinsing and towel drying,

follow up with a leave in conditioner. Once a week use a protein

treatment. Once every 2 weeks, use a hot oil treatment. One can get

these in individual packs in the drug store or at Sally's. I would

just try different kinds until I found one I like.

If hair loss is not due to damage, I suggest the line of Power Plus,

by Farouk Systems. This is a very cleansing line and has been known

to help assist with hair regrowth. I heard it worked miracles. I

used it once but found it was too drying for my hair. One will need

to use this shampoo for approx to really see results.

Stay clear of harsh hairsprays and gels as these can lead to breakage.

I usually give my mom her perms but right before Christmas, I was

moving and sick. I had her to go to the salon in her assist living

home. The hairstylist left the perm on too long and much of mom's

hair fell out. I have been using the Cream de Nature moisturizing

shampoo, it is a great ethnic moisturizing line. She is caucasian but

it works wonders on dry and damage hair of all kinds. I also use

Organic Hair Mayonnaise (an excellent dollar store brand conditioner)

and Bio Silk mixed with a pea size of Nexxus Humctress on her hair as

a leave in. As long as I follow this routine, her hair does not look

bad and appears healthy. Please note, I stated it *appears* healthy.

Just remember, damage hair is damage hair. It is going to fall out,

break off until all of the damage is gone. So this takes us to number

5.

5. Get a good hair cut. Hair always looks best when one has a good

cut, especially after a bad hair loss or breakage period. If ones

hair is falling out due to damage, it is best to get the worst of the

damage off (or as much length off as one can live with) and start all

over.

All in all, go to a doctor. This is the first thing anyone with hair

loss should do.

I hope little bit of info this helps.

I will have to reread this again later but thanks. My sis use to be

a hair stylist and still is on the side but I never let her color my

hair. She suggested years back Second Nature from Salley's and I

used that for a while but wanted highlights so used Clairol and

others and was stupid cuz I didn't realize to just put on roots and

not all over for 30 minutes. My sis thought I was using the not

permanent colors so she did not realize I might be frying my hair.

So, which hair colors might be safer without turning my hair RED from

Henna natural stuff I've seen? My hair is light brown/medium brown.

I think just me coloring my roots and then the rest for a few minutes

might help. Sister told me to try colored mousse until I can get my

hair back healthy. For over 20 years I've used Roffler shampoo and

conditioner for colored/permed hair and now also been using bath and

body works moisturizing shampoo and conditioner and also have not

been blow drying hair or curling since not going anywhere.

It is safer than some of the other suggestions I have read on here.

Especially the ones where people say they use ammonia and peroxide on

the head. Any antifungal shampoo will work. It is healthier than

living with a nasty fungus. I would like a safe healthy brand of

antifungal shampoo to suggest to friends. Can you please suggest a

good safe one? Head and Shoulder is the only over the counter, drug

store brand I know of that works on a fungus. Please let us know of

the kind you find safe.

That is so sweet and touching from young children and I hope you and

your kids and everyone that has been poisoned will get better and

healed. Your daughter seems to have a strong soul and will give us

all inspiration thru all this. I try to talk to the Creator/Universe

myself but I'm not sure anybody is hearing me....things continue to

get worse not better. Tell your kids Rhonda said " thank you " for

praying for me and others!! I believe that all goodness and prayers

go out to the universe to do more good and healing for all that need

it!

I can't imagine taking care of children thru this and taking care of

8 animals that are my furkids is way too much for me. I use to be

into animal rescue but only can take care of the ones I have now as a

sanctuary. They keep me going and not much else.....they get me out

of bed daily to feed them and take care of litter boxes etc and to

give them love and they do not care that I'm not healthy and they

love me for all the love and food I give them. I have a friend that

will deliver me food for the animals when I can't get out to get it

now or buy it b/c no money. If not for my furkids, I'd rather not

wake up... Rhonda

On some people Henna is really beautiful at firts and then it tends

to turn dull and can cause breakage.

I would do what your sister says is best. Being she is a professional

stylist, she will know.

Jackie,

Thanx for that info. Good to have a hair stylist here. I love the Nexxus line.

But, picked up some great tips for my daughter. Her hair has been a mess since

she was exposed. Dry, then greasy, the frizzy. I can't keep up. hehehe

But, I will try some of your suggetions. Thank you.

[] Re: my hair

Take me for example; I

can't use the drug store brands as they are too strong and damaging

to my hair. I use a very low volume of peroxide. I use 10 volume;

this would not penetrate the hair on most people to give a nice lift

as well as deposit.

Hey Rhonda,

I will agree w/you on one thing for sure. I am mad too. It sucks that all of

us have to be so ill from this. The part that really makes me upset is that the

info. is out there and still there are people who are getting sick and their

lives are being ruined. Just because no one wants to take a stand and make it a

real issue. They don't even know why they are sick. It is hard not to dwell on

it daily as it effects our everyday lives. But, for me I guess it has just

became a way of life. Plus, I have 2 small children who's lives have been

ruined. So for me the adult I have to forget about myself and concentrate on

helping them have a happy normal life. My daughter hopes that her prayers are

heard and that people get better, and that others are not sickened like she was.

I think her attitude has helped me to. I hope you get to feeling better one

day. If this helps She says a prayer for you and all the others everynight. She

prays that she hopes others who are sick like she is can smile one day soon like

she has learned to do. She & my son are my inspiration. My son prays too, but

his are not like hers. He is quite a bit younger than her. But his prayers are

heart touching too. Just not quite as in depth like hers. But even after 4

years they have not forgotten, and do not forget that others are sick too from

the same thing.

During the winter months I often get a bad case of dry scalp. I

think everyone knows that dandriff is caused by a fungus. I've used

straight white vinegar several times. When I first get in the

shower. I leave it there until I finish washing, rinse and wash with

regular shampoo, it works every time. It normally works for several

months, my thick head of hair hasn't fallen out yet so I guess it's

doing the job correctly.

To those of you who do not know me I was not the one exposed, my

wife was and just about everyone that I am aware of that has had a

mold exposure started losing their hair over time, because of. Is it

a fungus or because of your immune system?

That's nice your have something to keep you going. You are very lucky too that

the fur doesn't bother you. We would be very sick if we had animals w/fur. I

used to breed dogs and made very good money from it. Plus, we loved having the

babies here. But, we can't do it any longer. We also had to get rid of our

family pet. Bianca just couldn't do it any longer. It took me time to figure

that out though. She was soooo sad. So was my son. So, after 2 years of

waiting we brought home our new furless (Sphynx) kitten for Christmas. It was

like we had won the lotto here. They were so excited. So far she is fine. I

am highly allergic to cats and have no reaction what so ever. So maybe finally

we have found a pet that can stay. We all need something to soothe us, or to

care for. Animals are very soothing and comforting. So if you can have them

Rhonda by all means enjoy them.

Hey KC,

When I was living in the moldy house, I got to where I could not

tolerate vinegar, not even distilled vinegar. I was told to use it

but I would get sicker using it. Now I can tolerate it well. I use

it straight in a fine mist spray bottle and will spray an entire

room. I shut the door and leave for a few hours. I will come back to

a fresh smelling room!

I can't use it straight on my hair. I have to dilute it with water

because it tends to dry and eat up my hair. I have color on my hair.

However, I do use a half of a gallon in my bath water about once a

week and just soak for a long time, head and all. This is so

refreshing!!

Also, dry scalp is not always a fungus. Sometimes it is just dry

scalp. Usually massaging the conditioner in the scalp will resolve

the dry scalp.

As far as your question, I think hair loss due to mold can be either

one, immune and/or fungus.

I know from when my dad was ill, for a year after his last stroke and

heart attack, right before his death, he developed a horrible fungus.

He even had oral thrush and itched all over. This was not caused by

mold exposure, as his house did not have mold. He had a diabetic,

sick and dying body. In his case, I believe it had more to do with

immune system. The freaky thing that threw me for a loop, his death

certificate read " cause of death-yeast " Well, they did not use the

word " yeast " but the medical term..I am having a brain freeze and

can't think of it right now. He was never treated for yeast so I

can't help but wonder had he been treated if he had lived. I also ask

myself, if he died of yeast up there in the hospital, why wasn't he

treated for the yeast?? His leg had already died from a blood clot

and diabetie issues. It was going to be removed the next day. He

passed in 1996 2 weeks shy of his 82nd birthday. One thing I just

recalled, mom use to say when dad's sugar was up, that he

smelled " yeasty. "

Now that I am learning more about mold, thanks to this group, I have

so many questions..did yeast cause the diabeites or did the diabeties

cause the yeast??

Another question, could his dying body caused the yeast or could the

yeast caused his body to die??

I am allergic to animal fur from my recent allergy testing but mold was

the worst allergen with Aspergillus and Penicillium a 9 from 1-10 scale

and the other molds tested were 7's. I wish I lived in a fur free

house but love my animals. Never knew bunnies shed so much and they

shed worse than cats. Rhonda

lucky too that the fur doesn't bother you. We would be very sick if we

had animals w/fur.

I instantly relaxed & felt more calm when I read your post to me. I was so scared to take this new drug cause it sounds strong and I know nothing about it. But of course I want relief from this pain. It is very calming that you have taken it and had no sides. And that it works. I agree that today Everywhere hurts...maybe our hair is sending bad signals instead of positive answers to the Voices LOL (ya know that I luv you, Don) . Once again I am so grateful for all of you on here... Hugs & ( regaining) Humor...Trudy From Trudy from my iPhone ------------------------------------
