Guest guest
That's my usual position - only veggies for carbs, but I was standing there, in the store, with the free food, thinking " just one " . It was about an hour after supper, and I tested about another hour after that. It's possible that two hours out, I was fine. When you eat carbs, they kick in much faster than meals that include proteins ... and even more so when the meal contains fats. You probably would have had to test while you were still sampling to catch your high reading. A pure-carb meal can spike 1/2 hour to 1 hour after beginning eating. If I eat a lot of carbs (e.g., pasta), I have gotten in trouble before even leaving the restaurant. And isn't it *nice* to live like a Normal Person for just one day??? ) Enjoy it, kiddo ... now back to Reality 101. Thanks for sharing ...we have all had our moments like this ... I support it ... " brainos " ... I meant to say " even more so THAN when the meal contains fats " . Fats are inert as far as spiking bg's ... In fact, they dampen the glucose response to the carbs (I typed crabs ... hahahahaha) you eat. I have argued this point for years. We are soooo indoctrinated with " fat hatred " that diabetics are loathe to believe that it is NOT fats which are spiking their bg's. But then the next question is whether it is better to have a quick bg spike from the carbs, and get them out of your system quickly - or dampen the carb spike by addings fats to the meal ... and then having the bg rise hang around for hours. Since my recommendation is to keep the carbs to a minimum - and to focus on vegetables as your carb source, since they contain fiber and, in general, hit us more slowly, that is not a major question for me. There is discussion in the technical group and the LC-DIABETES group (often many of the same people) about this subject ... the AUC (area under the curve). I am still undecided as to whether - if you MUST eat a bunch of carbs - you should try to dampen the spike by adding fats or not. I do listen to what people say about Glycemic Index ... but I think that if we just focus on the grams of carbohydrates we taken in daily, we will soon see that we can eat only a few of the " problem foods, " whereas we can enjoy heaping helpings of some of the low-carb veggies ... and I do like to eat .... ) Susie
Guest guest
Was that a one time thing? The tour? I have not been to the new store yet. Is it great? I always shopped Whole Foods in Austin. Now I usually go to the Greenville Ave. store because it is close to my endo and retinologist and PCP over at Baylor. Guest guest
They have a tour at the Arlington every Thursday at 7pm. They prefer that you call ahead and let them know you're coming. I think that if no one calls, they seriously consider cancelling for that evening. The Arlington store is IMHO not as trendy as the Greenville location, but it does have almost everything that the other location does. So far, the only thing I've not been able to find is the specific brand of loose tea Ilike, but Dallas isn't that far away. I attended a tea tasting at the Greenville Ave store last week, and I think their facility is just snazzier. The Arlington location is the " new floor plan " , and it's more like any other grocery store, but with better food. Let me know how you like the tour. Robin G. >Was that a one time thing? The tour?
