Guest guest
Jane, Cannot speak for all. Can just tell you our experience. My daughter 5 yrs.at the time. Didn't have ANY breathing problems, was in perfectly good health. The pediatrician would even comment on how she was one of the healthiest kids he saw. During exposure she developed a bad cough. Sounded like she had smoked 10 packs a day. Nothing seemed to help. However, they hadn't diagnosed asthma yet. After we left the home she continued to get worse w/her breathing. Finally, 2 years ago she was diagnosed w/severe to moderate asthma. They gave her dual inhalers, that caused her stop breathing completely, get migraines, and throw up. She would start turning blue and scare the crap out of me. I didn't need a plane to fall on my head to figure that out. Long story short. We quit the inhalers. Atleast she could breath w/out them. Since exposure she has had problems w/almost all medication. It all makes her sick. This group taught me thru diet and avoidance of chemicals (I already had the healthy air down as far as mold, dust, allergens, but no clue what chemicals in our daily lives do to us) how to control her asthma and breathing. Which, in turn caused most of her symptoms since exposure to lesson. Before their help she was in and out of the hospital almost every month. But, she has not had to go since January of 2006. It is hard to do. This past week was her 1 yr anniversary from hospital life, so we had a little celebration for her. But, she is able to breath much better now. But, I can tell when she is somewhere she shouldn't be. So we get the heck out of there. Really never paid any attention to MCS conversations. Didn't even really know what it meant. But, I learned very quickly. Plus I had tons of support here. Wish I would have listened up earlier and done it sooner. I had been urged about this for months. But, atleast now I have. My point to this is that our indoor environment plays a MAJOR role on our lungs. Not to mention our over all health. So for us a big YES it has gotten better. But, not on it's own. We have to work very hard to keep the breathing better. [] breathing probs-- You said you developed breathing probs--asthma? after you left your house? Can you breathe okay now? I am still in my moldy house and have terrible probs but they go away sometimes when I leave here after a few hours. Help. Jane smarshwar <smarshwar@...> wrote: Maybe I can help a bit here. When we left our moldy home I started to have severe breathing problems. I could not breathe in our car unless I kept the windows open and stuck my head out. The company who remediated our personal possessions also cleaned our cars. As far as I know they put some sort of cleaner into the ventilation system and flushed it out. They also HEPA vacuumed everything. If I recall correctly my dealer mentioned that they too can clean the car's ventilation system, so you might ask some repair shops about that. Sometime after that, I discovered that my " new " allergies were severe and breathing outside air was a problem for me. I purchased portable HEPA filters from Allergy Buyers Club and I use one in each car. I always recirculate the air and run the filters. I can detect it if my husband changes the settings and brings in outside air. I take one of these filters with me when we stay in a hotel or with friends. - > > When you get an answer tell me. I've often wondered how to do that too or if it is possible. I mean we clean the ducts in ours homes. We use MERV/HEPA rating filters in our homes. We don't have that advantage in a car. I'll bet the heat ducts (or whatever they are called) in our cars are disgusting. Also, what if you buy a used car from someone. Many here don't have the advantage of getting a new car. These sellers put their pets in there. They smoke. They probably have moldy homes. They drive down dirt roads. Never really thought about all that until the past few years. > If you call the dealer to find out and do, let us know. I'll try to see if I can gather any info. on cleaning them also. If you can we'll have a national day " clean your car ducts. " hehehe > > > >
