Guest guest
Aloha from the Centre of the Universe, aka Mildmay, ON! Well, it's the centre of somebody's universe, but not mine! I have been lurking lately. I found out two wks ago my 79 yr old mother is diabetic and she's been put on metformin. No mention to get a meter...this is difficult for me, as mother is about as stubborn as they come, and since I am not a doctor she absolutely will not listen to me when I say she needs to check her blood. The doc is right up there next to God in her mind, and if he (the doc!) doesnt recommend one, she wont get one. So I guess I have to hope she does alright and that the doc keeps a good eye on her. The fact I have had good results with regular testing and low carbs and walking a lot is irrelevent. So here I am, mother, father and grandma all have/had diabetes. Talk about the family curse - I had no hope of escaping this! My dad developed it around age 60, and I have no info on grandma, but this would have been such a long time ago, when doctors probably couldn't help people very much. To anyone out there who thinks they dont need to take care of themselves, I was talking to a friend yest. who's dad is in the hospital and just had his other foot removed due to diabetes. He already has one artifical leg, and will now have another one. This friend's mom has it too. The fella is 40, and terribly overweight, and he's just waiting til he's told he's got it. It's beyond me how anyone can sit back and watch this happen to their family and not go about losing weight and trying to avoid or at least postpone diabetes. He seems like such a smart guy til it comes to this... All the best, Elva Faye, I'm pretty sure we have some other Canadians on the list..(unless they quietly left) ...Elva, are you out there?
