Guest guest
Pictures show Hazardous Mold at Centlivre Apartments Indiana's NewsCenter http://www.indianasnewscenter.com/Story.aspx?type=ln & NStoryID=4994 Jan 25, 2007 - We were first to tell you about " deplorable " living conditions at Centlivre apartments two weeks ago. Now, a former matienance worker says he contacted health officials about hazardous mold growing inside apartment units, but he was fired before anything could be done. While no one lived in these apartment units, maintenance worker Josh says he was told to hide the mold with paint and not to tell the tenants who lived next-door. He took pictures of the apartments, and we showed them to an inspector. That inspector is shocked, and says no one, not a single person should live near this type of mold. Take a look for yourself, you'll only see these pictures here on Indiana's Newscenter. Josh /Former Maintenance Worker, Centlivre Apartments: " You walked in and you just felt like you were being watched there was so much mold. " Josh worked at Centlivre apartments for almost six-months, until, he claims, he was fired for bringing a health inspector in to look at the mold in these vacant apartments. Josh /Former Maintenance Worker, Centlivre Apartments: " The order was to go in and clean up the place. When you were in there the smell was completely overwhelming. It seemed worse than any open bag of moldly bread. Your eyes would burn, honestly, the skin, if you didn't have any cover on it, it would feel like it was burning. When I brought the health inspector in he said not to worry about it. " says he took these pictures because he thought he was going to get sick from cleaning the mold. He argues he asked management at Centlivre for protective gear but they told him " they didn't have the funds " . Now, he says he's worried about the neighbors who have no idea their health is at risk. Josh /Former Maintenance Worker, Centlivre Apartments: " Apartments that no one was living in, we was told to take parts that was usable and put them somewhere else. Even though they were surrounded by mold. They said to wipe them down. " Home inspector Goddard says it's hard to tell how bad the mold is without testing it, but he's a hundred-percent sure no one should live in or near these apartments. Goddard/Home Inspector: " This one I would classify as black mold, stackibacus. And this is the one everyone is concerned about. This is the one that has the worst effect on people. It's not a quick fix. I've seen houses torn down because of this. " It's important to remind you that Neighborhood Code Enforcement inspected three buildings last week. Thirty-two violations were filed, but none were serious enough to condemn the buildings, and there isn't a violation listed on any on these documents that deals with mold or mildew. However, officers only toured common areas and certain apartment units, and not the rooms you just saw. Written & Edited by Pence. nicolep@...
