Thank you for your inquiry to CDC-INFO. In response to your request for information on a professional company that comes into your home to test your HVAC system, The CDC does not recommend routine testing for molds. Reliable testing for mold can be expensive. There are no standards to use in deciding what is an acceptable or normal amount of mold. To learn if your state has set standards, contact your state or local public health department. Contact information for your state health department is available at: http://www.statepublichealth.org/index.php?template=directory.php If you home is water-damaged, it is possible that mold could grow in the heating and/or cooling system(s). If this is possible, follow these steps: *Check your heating/ventilation/air conditioning (HVAC) system for damage. *Throw away wet or water-damaged filters. *Do not run your HVAC system if you know or think that it is contaminated with mold - it could spread mold throughout your home. *Turn off your HVAC system and cover vents and ducts during cleaning to prevent contaminating it. *You may need to hire a professional to inspect your system. Any needed repairs or cleaning of vents and air ducts should be performed before restarting the system.
