If your relatives are using acetone as a degreaser, maybe they could switch

to a citrus-based degreaser..

Do a search for " citrus cleaner " or the like.. These cleaners work very

well.. I've used them..

They still need to be ventilated, though..

That would be healthier for them as well as for you - and it would probably

work just as well..

From http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Limonene

" Limonene is increasingly being used as an environmentally friendly

alternative to mineral oils <http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mineral_oil> as a

solvent <http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Solvent> for cleaning purposes, such

as the removal of oil from machine parts, being more easily

biodegradable<http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Biodegradable>than mineral

oils, and produced from a renewable source (citrus oil, as a

byproduct of orange juice

<http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Orange_juice>manufacture.) Limonene

works as paint stripper when applied to painted wood.

The (*R*)-enantiomer <http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Enantiomer> is also used

as botanical <http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Botanical>

insecticide<http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Insecticide>. "

They should still ventilate it, though.. BTW,

They are crazy to be in such close contact to ACETONE..

Acetone is a serious industrial solvent.. I would NOT be at all surprised if

it caused brain damage, liver and kideny damage, etc. Its also flammable,

so heating it could be asking for trouble.. It could ignite, and possibly

cause an explosion...

Also, I don't know the MSDS number for acetone.. (look at the label, it

should be listed..) but if it melts plastic, and it does.. it HAS to do

serious harm to people's bodies..

If you could email me the ingredient list on their bottles of whatever they

are using, I could look up safety information on it...

We have to get you out of that situation.. it sounds really dangerous..

Ideally, they should stop using this stuff and switch to something safer..

and then ventilate it..
