Guest guest Posted July 1, 1999 Report Share Posted July 1, 1999 Yep, couldn't breast feed because I would cut off her air supply and with her weak sucking she couldn't latch on. I pumped for 3 months and we used a nuk nipple. She did well with that and ate well except did not gain. She also had 2 VSD and 2 ASD and pd didn't close. Much of that had a lot to do with the weak suck. We couldn't have open heart surgery to repair until the trach was removed. Our surgeon felt the trach was too close to the incision sight to risk it. Hang in there on the food, try different consistencies and never give up I promise it will get better. p.s. never crawled, walked at 18 months instead. We started her out by cruising down the hall leaning up against the wall per her PT's advice. She never had the upper body strength and still is lacking.
