Guest guest
I think that would be a good idea. They have them on most (if not all) buses now for the driver, but not for the kids. Speaking of bus accidents, I heard of a school bus rollover this past weekend in the Dallas area, where 11 students (according to the media) were transported to hospitals. I think everyone needs to wear seatbelts. If they save lives in cars, I am sure they will do the same on buses. Guest guest
I think school buses should have seatbelts. If for no other reason because it would be an aid in teaching your kids that you need to wear your seatbelt at all times. Seatbelts save lives, period, no matter how large or small your vehicle is. Guest guest
This would be an excellent idea but, they would have to re-design the seats. Currently the seats are designed with the high back to " catch " the flying child putting equal pressure on the body (knees, chest and head). The seat backs are padded to reduce injury. This actually does a pretty good job. If they put seat belts with this current design, the child's head would strike the seat and break the neck. Obviously, they would have to include shoulder belts along with the lap belts. These would have to be anchored on the floor instead of the seat. Like I stated earlier, this would have to be completely re-designed. Statistics show that the current system is pretty good and their current studies haven't identified any improvements. Jon R. Guest guest
I grew up outside of Chicago, and there were seatbelts on school busses. In fact, I didn't realize that there were busses that did not have belts until this e-mail went out. I agree that it helps children buckle up ALL the time. I don't, however, understand the issue with redesigning the busses. The seat back height will affect small children no matter how much it is lowered, and although shoulder restraints would be best, those on the busses I knew were only lap belts. I don't know their safety records, but it's something else to research... ------------------------------------------------------------------------
Guest guest
Any improvements? Restrained passengers fare better in rollovers... look at the rollover in the DFW metroplex last week.
