Guest guest
When air is very dry, sinuses develope cracks in them, like dry skin cracks and then any germ in sinuses can get into blood stream, this is why people get more 'colds' in the winter. The germs that cause colds are present all year round but in winter the dry air causes sinus membranes to develop small cracks and you come down with colds and flu. This is reason I started to humidifiy in the first place, but now I don't since house isn't cleaned of mold yet. I've been so busy with moving and now busy with personal business, I haven't been even able to start work on house. It's just standing empty (with heat on) I have just tried to do other things they say to avoid getting sick, keep hands clean, etc particularly after you've been out in public. I have tried to think of way to deal with this. What I think would help is moisturizing sinuses by breathing in water vapor but that can dry up quickly so I wonder if breathing through a vaporizer something like a Vic Vapor solution would moisturize sinuses but haven't tried it yet. I hate using commercial products now since I don't think they care what they put in them, quality isn't the issue, cost is, so if I could think of something that vaporize well and could be breathed in both hydrating sinuses and leaving a film of moisturizer behind would be perfect. Anyone have any suggestions? > > Besides the fronts killing me, my nose and sinuses are so dry and > cracking and I blow out blood clots and blood and I can't figure
Guest guest
Rhonda - You may want to try turning your thermostat of your furnace down a little and keeping a pot of water boiling on the stove. We do that in the winter and it helps. Also you may want to ask your doctor to test your sinus cavity for fungas and maybe he can prescribe Amphotericin B nasal rinse. It has worked great for me. Hope you feel better soon.
Guest guest
yes yes yes and it makes asthma worse. a viscious cycle. and I have sorta found a house. but I went back in when they did not know we wete coming back at around 6 and it smelled musty. I wonder if they air it out before showings. or turn the ac on and then the heat. prob. iluvbunnies5262 <iluvbunnies5262@...> wrote: Besides the fronts killing me, my nose and sinuses are so dry and cracking and I blow out blood clots and blood and I can't figure out how to help it. I have even spit out the blood in the sink which is just gross! I have a sinus rinse kit and I have Simply Saline but that isn't helping and the heat is on b/c cold and it really hurts being so dry in my head. I have to drink so much water b/c I stay thirsty and it doesn't seem to stop the thirst. I'm scared of humidifiers b/c mold can grow in them. I think my air purifiers dry my air too b/c constantly blow out air. My sis told me today her nose is bothering her and she thought she is getting an infection and that both her and husband have itching skin and the dry air is bothering them bad and she is having headaches and feeling horrible. They have a woodstove burning when cold too which can be drying. Now, this is from someone that normally tells me she doesn't feel all this crap I feel and I also had a friend say he feels like he's dying from headaches and sinus so this global warming is kicking others butts and I bet they wonder what is happening to them. I think my friend has a mold problem and pretty much know my sister's house has mold in crawlspace/maybe hvac from pipes bursting before and flooding under house. My friend said laughing that I must be more of a Man than him b/c he can't handle what he's feeling. LOL Let him and " THEM " feel all we feel and we are Major Survivors feeling this Crap! They have it briefly and can hardly function so let them think about feeling that daily 24/7 and more and try to function. And last thing my sis said was " MY NOSE " Yepper, my nose is driving me crazy too and hurts and bleeding and swollen face with pressure. Other sis left a message also saying she had so much pressure on her face it is making her sick. Next week will be back to 60's here and in same week around here can be 39 high in one day and 64 another day. I have a feeling these weather fronts are going to be stranger than what we see now in the future. I watched An Inconvenent Truth(Al Gore) last night but need to see it again not on my computer b/c I couldn't get my sound where I could Hear it without putting my ear up to my computer speaker but it was real interesting but I never denied Global Warming to begin with. My computer sound was 100% so I have no clue why I couldn't hear it. Rhonda --------------------------------- Need a quick answer? Get one in minutes from people who know. Guest guest
I had a flash last night and remembered about putting a pot on the stove to create some humidity and have done that today and will while awake to see if it helps. I'm scared of humidifiers and use to use them and the one I had probably was badly contaminated and I threw it out. Will use the pot from now on. I know I could put vinegar in the water and clean the humdifiers but to me not even worth the risk. I asked my ENT about doing a culture but for some reason he didn't do it and as long as I have breathe fungus, no telling what is in my sinuses and I have what the MRI said was a cyst in maxillary sinus and I wonder if it is fungus and seems when my face is real swollen, one side is bigger than the other and I think that is the side with whatever that thing is in there but MRI said right on one MRI then left on another so you think if they know how to read MRI's they would know which side the cyst is on or is it both?? I would have liked to tried an antifungal or the other thing you mentioned Amph B rinse and I could have staff infections in my sinuses also and with all that swelling I get, sinuses can't drain and that can lead to infection also. Guest guest
Rhonda, did you rent a DVD of An Inconvenient Truth or did you watch it off of the internet? barb >> 64 another day. Guest guest
It was a new DVD purchased from Borders with a Gift Card and my sound is fine normally but I remember when I one time experimented doing a video with my webcam that the sound was LOW also. I've been to sound and checked all that out so it doesn't make sense why low sometimes. Rhonda > >> 64 another day. Guest guest
Hi Rhonda, I have this problem all of the time, but not the bleeding so often. You may have a sinus infection because nose bleeding can be a sign of sinus infection, but not always. I have cold weather asthma due to the dryness in the air. Usually my sinuses are messed up badly when the air is very dry. When this happens, I take a hot steamy shower and I feel much better. I know how you feel about using any humidifiers as I am afraid of the mold growth this may cause as well. This is why I either take a shower, which is best for dryness, or sit in the bathroom with the shower going to breath the steam. Just make sure you venelate (SP??) the bathroom afterwards to remove the mositure. Heck, some of us sinus and asthma suffers need some moisture or we are worse off! Sometimes I get a pot of hot boiling sea salt water and breath it with a large towel to make a tent and lean my head over and breath it. This may be best to do if your house has a mold problem already..one does not want to add to the pending mold in a sick building! Over all, the hot shower works best for me when my sinuses get dried out. The saline solution tends to make me worse if I don't get lots and lots of steam in my nose first. A little steam daily is not going to cause a mold growth as long as the bathroom is aired out to dry. I don't have mold in my bathroom because I leave the doors open and a vent fan on for about an hour after taking a hot steamy shower. In my other house, which had a window, I would open the window..yes, it got cold but I just kept the door shut..it keeps down mold growth! I have my whole family to do this as well. I feel a humidifier is OK to use every now and then as long it is maintained and cleaned and the room one uses it in is left to dry out after the uses. The only time I have seen a mold problem with a humidifier is when it was not maintained or was left running constantly in the same room and the room was not given a chance to dry out daily. Using a humidifier properly is not a bad thing, I am afraid of the mold too but some of us need a balance of moisture. I am worse off in a dry climate or building than I am one with a little moisture. As long as the place is clean and allowed to air and dry, a little moisture can help some of us with sinus or asthma problems. Jackie By the way, I am having major internet problems so I am not online much as of late. If anyone has written me, I am not ignoring anyone. I just can't get online much or my connection will go off in the middle of writing! > > Besides the fronts killing me, my nose and sinuses are so dry and > cracking and I blow out blood clots and blood and I can't figure out > how to help it. Guest guest
Look, this is a no brainer. Everyone should have a ventilation fan in their bathroom - and kitchen. And use it. They can be put on timers so they turn off after 15 or 30 minutes (or whatever.)
Guest guest
Hi Live Simply, I don't use any Clorox or ammonia in my bathroom. I might do a once a month disinfecting but not always. I use dishwashing liquid to clean my tub, sink and toilet as I can't stand strong smells. I don't have any mold in my bathroom. There are 3 people who take either a daily shower or bath daily in this same bathroom. There is steam in the bathroom 3 times a day. We keep the room open and vented when not in use. I might spray vinegar around every now and then but not so often. We do not have one trace of mold. I am sure it is because the room is well vented and clean. --- In , LiveSimply <quackadillian@...> wrote: > > Look, this is a no brainer. Guest guest
Have you ever thought of using a saline wash for your sinuses to soothe and hydrate them?
Guest guest
It was only 11% humidity here today and that is very low around here in NC and windy as ever too. I keep using the pot on the stove simmering water to see if that helps but remember to turn it off when going to bed. I do wonder if saline drys out sinuses but I have Simply Saline and Sinus Rinse I use. It is very dry around here with low humidity and when cold outside, the heat indoors adds to the dryness. Guest guest
Rhonda, just remember to set a timer or something so the water doesn't evaporate and cause the pot to burn. I have done that. Usually when I wake up I put a pot on to breath in a little steam. My ENT told me to use saline spray after I had sinus surgery. Just remember to wipe off the part you put in your nose to spray. I noticed if I don't do that it gets musty, cuz no preservatives I guess. > > It was only 11% humidity here today and that is very low around here in > NC and windy as ever too.
