No, if I had done it before it was built, I wouldn't have had mold. 12

years after living in the house with a damp crawlspace I had a

waterproofing company do the work. There is a finished pic on photos

on this group Rhonda's pics of the " Clean Space " as they call it. I

would think somone could install the polyethylene theirselves. Seems

they used some type of bolt or screw type thing to secure the

polyethylene to the sides of crawlspace. I believe the " Clean Space " is

treated also with Anabec. Forget just using plastic barriers b/c it

didn't do one thing to help my damp crawlspace. My insulation and floor

joist had mold on it too. I had the insulation removed and didn't even

need to replace it. I wouldn't advise anyone to remove the

ducts/insulation theirselves without major protective gear and whatever

you stir up is going to remain in that space and enter thru cracks in

your home. That is why the right mold remediation company will always

use Negative Air Pressure to pull out all the nasties they will be

stirring up. With my system turned off, I wrapped all my inside floor

registers with a lot of plastic and used painters tape to seal off and

the inside return grill also.

Anyone with a damp/wet crawlspace and your airhandler is in there

should have the whole airhandler checked out for mold and air ducts.

Mine was badly contaminated. With my new airhandler, the plenum(the

part the air ducts are hooked up to airhandler or some call it air

exchange), can't be checked b/c the new codes require all air ducts to

be sealed which is a good thing. Also, older airhandlers and some new

ones have fiberboard in them which is bad news. It harbors mold and

bacteria so if you purchase a new airhandler, only get one that doesn't

have fiberboard. My old one had that. Some of my old air ducts had fell

off due to dampness and they had holes in them too from who knows what.

The Sanidry de-humidifier/air purifier the waterproofing company

installed has a drain line that goes to the back of my lot and I also

have a super sump pump that they installed. I think I'm covered now.

Funny people say to me now I can move. No way would I do that now b/c

I know my house is safe now and I won't live over dirt crawlspaces

again.
