Guest guest
I posted about how I did this a few weeks ago. I used a Vicks humidifier with ammonia in it. It really got into the cracks. Of course this is not the proper use of a Vicks Vaporizer so I use extreme safety measures. I have only done this in my attic and a room we emptied, removed carpet and cleaned. We aired it out over night before going back into the treated room. We did not go into the house while this was being done. We aired the house out for 3 hours before entering. I don't know if this is the same as ammonia gas though. BTW, After doing this, my asthma has gotten better. I am not sure if it is due to the weather being better or removing the carpet from our bedroom and then doing the ammonia thing. I believe it is a combination of both. > > All: > > Just curious, has anyone tried the ammonia-gas fumigation on anything?? > > C. Guest guest
Hi Jeff, I put a bowl of ammonia in the bedroom of small apartment I have rented and closed it off. When I peek in the smell of ammonia blew me away so it is very strong ammonia and lasted perhaps a couple of days. I am not using room yet as that is room air conditioner was in (now taken out) and I have not been able to clean radiator that was underneath it yet. After a few days of being closed up after the ammonia odor came back but then radiator is full of dust. It has the smell of cooking dust. I have to get to that. I'm hoping the ammonia at least decontaminated it some. Culture plates on apartment turned up one mold spore only for one hour test where I carried plate around a bit. A 20 minute test I did before I rented it caught no mold spores. Of course I know that doesn't mean there isn't dead mold spores and particles with mycotoxins on it, bacteria, etc. (Just to let people know I'm catching on). So every place I move to I learn something. Learned about moldy air conditioners and how to drain them at temporary hotel and now the pitfalls of radiators and how all hardwood flooring is not always great if they aren't in good condition. Luckily I don't move furniture but an air bed and plastic crates, folding table and chairs, like a gypsy. Here is picture of wood floors here incidentally: <http://picturetales.blogspot.com/> > > All: > > Just curious, has anyone tried the ammonia-gas fumigation on anything?? > > C. Guest guest
I used the ammonia in an empty room but it did not discolor or damage wood floor or walls. I didn't try chlorine though. I think the ammonia would be effective had room been cleaned to decontaminate any remnants of contaminants. I was really using it instead of cleaning, or at least 'before' cleaning. --- In , Christ <antares@...> wrote: > > I would also be curious about chlorine gas.
