Guest guest
I read recently from one source that the average minimum is 47 grams but that's very low compared to what Barry Sear's recommends in his Zone Diet. In his book, the Zone Diet, Barry Sears tells you how in the beginning of book. If I was home, I have his book and would tell you but maybe you can find it online. There's your base amount with sedentary life and then moderate activity and then active, etc. Here it is: <http://lowcarbdiets.about.com/od/zonediet/a/zoneprotein.htm> > > I'm not sure I ever figured that out but I know I used to read a deck > size of cards of meat is enough per day and also that can depend on > how active you are. Guest guest
Hi Rhonda, I don't know how much protein one needs but I always went by the 3 protein servings a day rule. One thing, when eating beans, one will need to add a grain food such as corn bread, rice and etc to make the beans a complete protein. Beans are not complete when eaten alone without a grain. If I remember correctly, I read this in an Adale book...her health books were popular in the late 70's and early 80's. I read her book, " Let's Have Healthy Children " while I was pregnant with my first son. I did everything her book said to do and my son has always been a picture of health! I lost about 40 pounds a few years ago when I made a special high protein shake (that I made up) and drank it every morning. In fact, I lost it all in one month without starving. My doctor was amazed but he said it was the high protein content in my special shake that caused the weight loss. > > I'm not sure I ever figured that out but I know I used to read a deck > size of cards of meat is enough per day and also that can depend on > how active you are. Guest guest
WOW, I wonder if I've ever ate 75 grams of protein a day but I've never really tried to add up what I eat. Guess my body is screaming for protein. I did order me seeds and nuts and they should be here Wed. Now I'm interested in how much protein is in a chicken breast or piece of meat. I'll google and see what I find. I think my protein drink with one scoop or might be two is 20grams but I haven't been drinking it lately. Guest guest
Thanks for the info. I do recall about beans and need rice etc. to make complete protein. One thing for sure, I do not need to lose weight. 40lbs would have me 60lbs, LOL. I did notice that with the seeds/nuts I can get I think it was 7grams in one ounce and some had more protein per ounce. 75grams a day tho seems like a lot but if I drink protein drinks also may be able to get that much daily. Guest guest
Here's a handy guide for getting protein with a vegetarian diet. They used to say you should eat the 'complementary protein veggies' in the same meals but now I've heard they can be a few hours apart and still form complete protein in your body, so who knows which is right. To be safe, I would try in same meal. It says you can make complete protein with legumes + grain, or legumes + nuts, or legumes + seeds. Beans are a legume. I don't know what the others are. <http://www.theveggietable.com/articles/protein.html> > > when eating beans, one will > need to add a grain food such as corn bread, rice and etc to make the > beans a complete protein.
