The NDP is calling on the Conservative government to fulfill a 2006 promise of financial relief for people living in leaky dwellings. Carmen Maretic, president of the Consumer Advocacy and Support for Homeowners (CASH), said the cost in repairs to B.C. homeowners is about $1.5 billion. Penny Priddy, NDP MP for Surrey-North, said the impact on health care is significant. She said children and people with deficient immune systems will suffer upper respiratory problems because of mould associated with the damp dwellings. " For those people living in leaky condos, their children are going to pay the cost life long, " said Priddy, the NDP health critic. The NDP is also calling for an inquiry into the Canadian Mortgage and Housing Corporation. " There's a national interest in calling this inquiry, " Maretic said. " There's a lot to be learned.
