Categories of items inside a building

Still more browser troubles – third try in 2 days… I'm going to try

to keep this simple because my hands and everything else hurt too

much.

Anyone have any input on what types of items may be salvaged from a

potentially contaminated building – assume it does have some

contamination and contains a lifetime of possessions, everything

from photos and books, CDs, DVDs, records, musical instruments,

electronics, artwork, standard furnishings, equipment racks, and

many more personal items. Of course anything that is really

inexpensive is probably better chucked and replaced later.

Lets say we have three major categories – things that pretty much

surely need to be left behind, things that can pretty likely be

saved with reasonable effort and things that are somewhere in

between. Any educated guesses what things may fall into each

category? I don't want to have to drag around and store things that

are certain to be a total loss or invest effort better spent on

other things. I understand that nobody can tell anything for sure

but any suggestions may probe helpful. I know that in the end I will

have to make my own decisions. Am I fooling myself by even asking

these questions?

Also, does anyone have suggestions for getting papers and maybe

photos scanned so I can have a way to retain copies of important

documents and maybe a few keepsakes?

Thanks in advance – gotta crash
