Guest guest
Adam please dont ask what we make......... For what I'v seen and know, Austin's got us all beat(the whole state,im willing to bet).Plus yall have the top EMS units, equipment, protocols, training, and great overtime pay too. I would love to work there but only one problem, one would be headed to burnout city rather quick I believe. Im sure the pay is all great but Austin sure gets the most out there street medics.(work wise) Also I keep seeing for the past year and a half, yall saying ILS enroute to converting to full paramedics at all times. So why has it not happened yet? Guest guest
Tim, I am sorry that you did not quite understand my posting. I was not asking what everyone makes, I was responding to a question asked by the following: >>>> > Reply-To: egroups > Delivered-To: listsaver-egroups-egroups > From: " Gormley" <emedicnwol (DOT) net> > To: <egroups> > Date: Mon, 21 Dec 1998 13:24:01 -0600 > X-MSMail-Priority: Normal > X-Mailer: Microsoft Outlook Express 4.72.3110.1 > X-MimeOLE: Produced By Microsoft MimeOLE V4.72.3155.0 > Subject: [] EMT Pay > > What is the pay rates around where everyone lives? > > ---------- > > <<<< As for the rest of your reply to my letter.... Well, you are right that we are a busy system. I don't think you would find anyone here that would try to deny that. But as for being a burned out city...Well, I would have to disagree, we are not a burned out system. All of us are proud of the system that has been established through the hard work of our employees, past & present. We have been going through a lot of changes over the last 2 years, and because of that we have lost some good employees. Change is a hard thing to cope with, and many decided that they would be better off elsewhere...as usually happens when these changes occur in a system. About two years ago the system began a change to an all ALS system. Converting all the system's EMT-B's to EMT-I and staffing all the units with at least one EMT-P, thus ending the tiered BLS/ALS unit configuration. The conversion is scheduled to be complete in Jan. or Feb. of 2000 (not 100% sure of the date, but close to there). At that time we will have an all paramedic staff. This delay in complete conversion to all paramedics has been too allow all the existing staff that are not already EMT-P's to go through paramedic school and get system cleared to the ALS level. We are also going to be adding 5-8 more ground units to supplement our county response in the next year and a half. We are growing, so expect to see more ads for paramedics in trade magazines. Again, sorry for the apparent misunderstanding regarding my previous message. Take care, be safe and have a GREAT holiday season! Guest guest
My bad....sorry it was taken wrong. I meant that jokingly dont ask what we make else where cuz your from Austin with great pay. As far as burnout. Tell me you dont get young medics like myself(26) that hit burnout rather fast there? I was just saying thats what my fear would be. I love EMS and is in it for career. I just would hate to get to much at one time when im just getting into it. the call volume there is WILD. I know, I did ride out there last year for just 6hours(loved it) and was enough for me to say " take it slow " and " dont rush into the run all day all night " type call volume service. But over all I invy you guys cause yalls skills are awsome near perfection. So please accept an apology from me if you are offended or was, Happy New Year!!! L. What is the cost of living in the area? The attached is a cost of living comparison. Your money may go farther making $40k in Beaumont, TX than making $70k in New York City. Guest guest
toni6, sounds like you have really been burned by your employer, however that may be. but Beaumont doesn't offer empty promises. you keep focusing on 8.50 an hour, and you seem to missing that yearly you make 30k. you mentioned 1700 a month if that is what you are making i can understand why you want to get into another field. that is really a shame because i know that you work hard to get where you are. i've been there. i make 3000 a month and i really don't work that much overtime, i too have a family. i think that you need to realize that not every service treats their employees the way yours has treated you. you are not forced to become a firefighter because in bmt we are a third city servie. fire only first responds for us. don't let what has happened to you where you are now affect your career. there are good services out there. you just have to know where to look. by the way beaumont is in southeast texas near the louisiana border. cindy thomason fto beaumont ems >From -return-1569-zafir33=hotmail.comreturns (DOT) Thu Dec 31 08:45:41 1998 >Received: (qmail 4785 invoked by uid 505); 31 Dec 1998 16:45:31 -0000 >Mailing-List: contact -owneregroups >Precedence: list >X-URL: /list// >X-Mailing-List: egroups >Reply-To: egroups >Delivered-To: listsaver-egroups-egroups >Received: (qmail 1328 invoked by uid 7770); 31 Dec 1998 16:45:30 -0000 >Received: from pimaia2y-ext.prodigy.com (207.115.58.95) > by vault.findmail.com with SMTP; 31 Dec 1998 16:45:30 -0000 >Received: from mime3.prodigy.com (mime3.prodigy.com [192.168.253.27]) > by pimaia2y-ext.prodigy.com (8.8.5/8.8.5) with ESMTP id LAA32732 > for <egroups>; Thu, 31 Dec 1998 11:45:19 -0500 >Received: (from root@localhost) by mime3.prodigy.com (8.6.10/8.6.9) id LAA10690 for egroups; Thu, 31 Dec 1998 11:11:19 -0500 >Message-Id: >X-Mailer: Prodigy Internet GW(v0.9beta) - ae01dm04sc03 >From: Toni6@... Guest guest
IGNORANCE on there part and many other county/city officials throughout TEXAS. But.5 sales tax is what seems to buy them over and approval is rather successful. It worked for us and just recently Mason County did the same. But also when you pick up one of them so called VIP's or city official and EMS made a differ for them, there tune seems to change to PRO EMS!!! Guest guest
Very well said...and man don't even think about it until they have a reason to call for EMS....I'd loved to tell them.....sorry you need so-and-so drug or treatment but you disapproved out requestion for the funding so you will have to do without! Hmm...might get them thinking then. toni Regarding EMT pay: If a county is willing to pay for a certain number of sheriff's deputies to be on duty 24-7 and is willing to buy expensive dumptrucks, tractors, etc. required to maintain the county roads, why is it unwilling to invest in a potentially life-saving ambulance organization (ambulances, paid personnel, etc.)??? Our elected officials should be reminded that the life they may be saving may be their own. -- , FF/NREMTP “Live your life. Guest guest
Thank you cindy for all the great info...I will consider it. My husband and I have to both relocate and it all depends on who's salery benefits and such are the best as well as schools medical care and such..I am the mother of two medically frail special needs children and its hard to find good specialist so we have to be near a large medical center with lots of pediatric specialities. As far as being burned its happened twice since I arrived in Texas. the first time the San antonio based company pulled out the area but forgot to tell the employees!!! Took weeks to get my final paycheck and of course I had not been with them long enough to quailify for umemployment and gave up my unemployment to accept this position. Since they offered me a position in San , I couldn't get unemployment because of the laws here and the company making me an offer and I turned it down because I could not relocate. The second incident was the " EMTs are a dime a dozen " This definately makes you very leary of any service especially the privates...Having worked all over the world I have never experienced this kind of treatment in other countries.... toni toni6, sounds like you have really been burned by your employer, however that may be. but Beaumont doesn't offer empty promises. you keep focusing on 8.50 an hour, and you seem to missing that yearly you make 30k. you mentioned 1700 a month if that is what you are making i can understand why you want to get into another field. that is really a shame because i know that you work hard to get where you are. i've been there. i make 3000 a month and i really don't work that much overtime, i too have a family. i think that you need to realize that not every service treats their employees the way yours has treated you. you are not forced to become a firefighter because in bmt we are a third city servie. fire only first responds for us. don't let what has happened to you where you are now affect your career. there are good services out there. you just have to know where to look. by the way beaumont is in southeast texas near the louisiana border. cindy thomason fto ------------------------------------------------------------------------
Guest guest
Dear MRS toni6, I have a clearer understanding of where you are coming from, now that I have read your last 4 posts. You generally hate Texas, EMS in Texas, and that alone makes it very difficult to enjoy life as we know it here. Having no background in hate, I will get off the bandwagon of why I think its a wonderful state, with wonderful people in the business, and leave you out there with those companies I mentioned earlier, that are here today and gone tomorrow. I cannot complete with attitudes that dont believe in a better job promise from a better city, whose employers are good to work for. I actually thought you were looking for work and not a sounding board on wages, sorry States (such as Texas), and I only hope you move on to better things. We all know how you feel about this business so maybe we can also move on. Guest guest
I totally agree! Everybody is forgetting why most of us got into this to start with. Everyone knows EMS is not a high paying job when they get into it. It will be years before our pay catches up with other medical professions, so unless you people are willing to do something to change it, like changing laws, stop griping about it.
