Superintendent Dee said crews demolishing walls found the mold in sheetrock and insulation in the back wall. The district has been renovating restrooms at the junior high and intermediate campuses to make them handicapped accessible. said " not a great deal of mold " was found and that it was " not active. " When the mold was discovered, said the district sealed the exposed area — which were the two restrooms being worked on and the air conditioning in the area. The district hired Argus Environmental to do a test on the mold, and said the district was told that it had properly contained and isolated the mold. She said the report indicated there was no reason to evacuate the school because there was no evidence the mold was growing and no signs of cross-contamination in the building. sent a letter to parents on Feb. 28 alerting them of the situation. She said she has been calling licensed mold-removal companies to determine the cost of removing the mold. With the quoted cost exceeding $10,000, said she needs board approval before she could proceed. A special board meeting has been called for 5:30 p.m., today, at the junior high library to discuss quotes for the mold removal. said if the board approves the price tag, crews would start taking the mold out next week during the district's spring break.
