Guest guest
Hi , Thanks for writing me back! It is nice to have contact with one who knows the pain I suffer. Unfortunatly, I am highly allergic to asperin or asperin like products which elimates me from most anti- inflamatories (sp?) - dr. started me on some after stating that and proceeding to prescribe - if not for the pharmacy calling to alert my I could have been in big big trouble - so that is my current dilema.. sad hunh!! you sound like you are no stranger to the pain that hurts all the time - sometimes I just bang my head against the fridg (not really, but want to) anything to get rid of the pain. The perc. works less now after two or more years yet dr.'s put you on it and don't let you know how to deal once they stop and are to afraid to prescribe more. It sucks being a girl because I know some men who have had this and dr.'s give stronger meds. I don't get it? Anyway thanks for your reply and prayers! It means alot. Guest guest
Hi Cary I hope this finds you feeling a bit more comfortable today. I am 42 and have had various herniated discs in lumbar region for past 20 yrs. I have been able to have ops on NHS but the pain was undiagnosed for first ten years. I now take fentanyl patches combined with amiltryptaline. Feel tired all the time and sleep a lot but pain almost " under control " . Have tried many things in past; found acupuncture helpful as well as oramorph and diazepam for flareups. Nobody likes taking drugs for a long time because of side effects but no one would expect a diabetic to give up their insulin. The amount prescribed to men takes into account their larger l ivers and body mass, a bit like alcohol! Try to keep positive Lorna ________________________________ To: Hugs-N-Pain Sent: Monday, 24 November, 2008 5:47:57 AM Subject: Re: Hernieated disc in Neck Sever Pain - > > >my name is james, i have had a fusion at c3-c4 plus a bulging > disc > > at c6-c7 from a spinal cord injury i had 3 years ago. i still have > > pain and working with different meds to see which ones will work. > > you said that you were taking percocet. Guest guest
I use 90/month T3's and would have a degree of withdrawal if I were to to shut it off quickly. Instead I go down a pill at a time until one pill and none for several days. That way no withdrawal except the pain comes back but it's nice to keep tolerance down. Because of that I've been on the same amount for 10 years without increasing the dose. Don't think you are an automatic " addict " . That's separate from tolerance. Tolerance is your body's normal reaction to opiates because it's a fairly natural chemical that your own body can create so it adjusts to the additional level. You learn to drop the dosage so there are no withdrawal but you can talk to your doctor about keeping it low. I use what works for me. I am medically dependent on opiates or I'm in deep doo doo pain and spasm wise without them. If you are an addict you will do things you never thought you'd do to get the drug. Anyway.....let someone who really knows addictions determine if you have that problem. It is not a simple thing and not a word to just toss around for the heck of it. You'll know if you're in trouble that way. There's just a public image of narcotics that is unrealistic for folks like us. Our medical dependency is normal. Don't get upset about the mental and " addiction " thing. The drug is not the addiction anyway...only a symptom for real addicts. Guest guest
May 07 I had C-4 - C-7 fusion and now C-3 bulging disc with spinal stenosis. I'm on Neurontin(generic form), waiting for results from C-Spine CT Scans done on 10-29, can't see my Neurosurgeon until 12-4 to get the results. (Pretty good I've had to pay the bills and still no results yet.) My pain is bad these days. > >my name is james, i have had a fusion at c3-c4 plus a bulging disc > at c6-c7 from a spinal cord injury i had 3 years ago. i still have > pain and working with different meds to see which ones will work. > you said that you were taking percocet. Guest guest
Hi, I completely get you! I heard neurotin is good, I have apt. set up first week in Dec. I am going to ask about that. I am currently on opiad (sp?) therapy 60 tabs perc. bad news though, doesn't touch the pain any more. I am a candidate for surgery but have a severe panic about surgery, also tould I am to young for such an extensive operation - need fusion c4- c7. Maybe after holiday I will consider. I will keep in touch!!!! Talk to your Dr. about Percocet - it does help somewhat! > > >my name is james, i have had a fusion at c3-c4 plus a bulging disc > > at c6-c7 from a spinal cord injury i had 3 years ago. i still have > > pain and working with different meds to see which ones will work. > > you said that you were taking percocet. Guest guest
My Gosh, I am so glad to hear from you!!! I thought I was losing it! I have been on opiote (sp?) for three years now. I am scared all the time. I feel like if I run out of my medication I will be in big trouble. I am an honest person who just happens to have severe pain and sometimes feel " labeled " as a pill person. I was put on medication by my Dr. for a very serious condition and hate that others use and abuse medication for other (recrational use) reasons. This is not a door I wished to walk through but did unknowlingly and feel very sad sometimes because I think I have a chemical dependancy (I watch programs alot about movie stars and such...) It is not a fun or wanted journey that anyone would like to have, for me, it is just a part of what has happened to me. I wish there was just one pill that would take care of it all and never have to take another one. Too bad that is not the case. Dr.'s walk you into the door and keep you there. I need to discipline myself to stop taking med's and endure the pain - because I hate being dependant on anything. (Even now have trouble typing as my arm is going numb and pain is shooting through) I would give it all up for a magic wand. I quit my job as Computer Specialist and now work retail - people who make fun of those on med's don't realize the sacrifice and pain we suffer every day. I have gone on a tangent - I Know that, but feel sick about why this is happening to me. I know I should be thankful for all the good things in my life, and I am, but this part just outright bites! Sorry for the tangent - other things also going on that I needed to just go on and get out. Thanks for listening!!! Guest guest
Yep! Gabapentin, generic for Neurontin, is all they've given me, my pain and headaches have gotten so bad these days and none of my doctors seem to care at all. On top of that, my prescription insurance company is having mhy doctors change meds on me too! It's cold here in the Northwest and I sure can feel it in my body. Guest guest
When they found my cervical problems, they immediately did the fusion, for fear of me being paralyzed. I've had numerous surgeries of all kinds through the years, I'm 55+. Now days I just hurt every where! Guest guest
Tangents very permissable here. It's what we all do best when we need it. We all know the frustration. Pain without treatment can do great harm to your body so use the meds knowing you're helping yourself. We do not use them to escape life as addicts do...we use them to rejoin it to the best of our ability. I use to know movie stars...and it's a very stressful occupation....small wonder some of them jump off the deep end and they are used as an example in the media but it happens to anyone anywhere. It takes a well balanced life to keep out of the addiction process and a lot of us loose that. It's one of the ways we can protect ourselves from addiction. The ability to handle stress realistically one day at a time. Accept the pain as part of your illness. It's all we can do and with acceptance you use meds and exercise and use good mental health practices. Balance. I had to change my entire life. It landed on cyberspace but I get a lot from it by doing t sirt shops, volunteer work for Wired Safety working with internet victims and so forth and so on. We adjust and make it count best we can and find the joy in it whenever it pops up. It's a huge change and takes a bit to adjust and make it work out. And........Pleeeeeeeezzzzzzzzz please don't use the media and their reports about druggies as an example. They are so far off base it's scary. I use to treat addicts and there are addict educated people who can best answer your questions and do use a councelor if you feel you need it. We've developed a " Narcophobic " aspect of our society due to these reports.....there's an addict behind every bush and under every rock!! http://www.cssa-inc.org/Articles/narcophobia.htm The above link may help you have a better understanding and I hope, help your fears. You are soooooo not alone and this page will help you understand just how not alone you are in your fears. But please....God noooo!!  Do not get your understanding from TV. You'll really end up on the funny farm. Guest guest
I have always tried to look at it like this.... maybe it is not exactly right. but it is the way I feel. so what is it is addicting. when the pain is so unbarring that you can not function without the meds and you have no life and with the meds you are able to have somewhat of a life.. I don't care if they are addicting. during the summer and fall these are better times for me. and I am able to reduce the amount of meds I take but when we start with the cold cold nights and rain it really gets to me. my Dr. can just look at my face and he knows it is time to do something different. I used to really bother me. but, like I said I finally decided if this is what it takes to make my life livable. what the hey. Just my personal opinion. usually by 7-9 pm I crash at night I am so tried. tomorrow my DIL has her pinning ceremony from graduating from nursing school and I really need school and I have been to bed 3 times but each time I lay down the pain gets worse. so here I am. hope each of you are having good nights and pain levels are low. as you can tell I am using this time to catch up on a few emails. I was just a little behind. Jena from Ga. P.S. does anyone know how to use sigtags with Vista? Guest guest
Margee. I was unable to take Neurontin I gained 10 lbs. in just over a week. I am presently and have been for about 3 years taking Topamax. they say it will help u loose wt... that hasn't happened for me but I haven't gained either. so I am not complaining and it works. for Neuropathy.
