Guest guest
Hi Susie: Well, they have had differing thoughts on this, each specialist, etc. I think they are calling it type 2 because I am overweight (50lbs), and that there is a family history of Type 2. I just moved though and the doctor here feels that I am likely Type 1. AAHH! No clear answer on this one! Marcy OtterCritter wrote: > > > Marcy wrote: > > << I am new to the list. (Spoken by a die-hard cynic.) Question: -- How do we " fight " the petition's probable hidden agendas that we continue high-carbing and shooting insulin? Sign the ADA petition? (I just did.) Or start one of our own? in Constable
Guest guest
Marcy, I take four shots a day but I don't think it's the same stuff you take. I don't know what " Toronto " is and your numbers and mine don't read the same (I'm in the U.S.) I take fast-acting lispro immediately before meals, matching insulin with carbs..(at a ratio of about 15 carbs per unit of insulin). ..then I take 5 units NPH at bedtime. This, plus moderately low-carb eating (under 100 carbs per day) plus 2000 units Glucophage has been giving me excellent control. Since the lispro is immediate-acting, if I don't eat I don't take it and it's not a problem Sounds like " Toronto " is a longer-acting insulin. Vicki A. Guest guest
Thanks Vicki: The Toronto insulin is slightly longer acting, I need to take it 1/2 hour before meals (which I never seem to do). Once I get on a health plan , I will be taking Humalog, which can be taken right before meals. Wow! Do I ever feel awful though! I didn't want to eat but hubby made me! I will get back on track tomorrow - thankfully I don't have too many bad days! Guest guest
Hi: I am taking Toronto insulin, 3 times a day, which needs to be 1/2 hour before meals. I also take NPH at night time. My endo wishes me to be on a strict schedule, as when I have faltered from this my sugars go way up! Hoping when I do the low-carb to get off of the insulin, just not ready to make the change yet. I plan on being good for the holidays, I'm just not sure I'm going to switch to the low-carb diet till after the holidays. My sugars have been quite good lately, and steady! >> Yeah ... ( ... Sometimes I come on really heavy. It is amazing how quickly the body responds when we treat it right. Likewise, if we fall off the wagon over the holidays, it's important to hop right back on, and not let ourselves be led astray for the entire holiday season. I will just breathe easier when it is the end of February, and we have cleared Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Year's and Valentine's Day in relatively good shape.
