Guest guest
Hi to everyone, beautiful sunny day here in NY.....I am a Type ll diabetic, have had almose all complications from this disease, I am 40 years old, had many surgeries, a stroke lost my vision for 5 months, GI problems, neuropathy hands, legs and feet, and more, Anyway, Becky, they should do a Liver function Test, for your liver, a 24 hour Urine, ( Checks protein spilling and other things, for kidneys, and EMG is the test for neuropathy, (Orthopedics Doctor does the EMG), hope this is helpful.. Gillian, hi, yes I have had sigmoid and colonoscopy, GI problems are part of Diabetes, can be something or just irritability of intestines, Hi sugars can cause abdominal cramps and loose stools, can wipe you out, some meds for Diabetes cause GI upset, especially Glucophage.... good luck, also, doctor can use consious sedation, mixture of IV medications, to relax you and you won't feel a thing... Hi Vicki, diabetics should not skip their insulin, you can take 1/2 the dose before you test, it depends on if you drop low or not,,,,, and how long you would be without food, the reason the doctor tells you not to eat, is because he doesn't want you to drop too low, if you do drop low, you can suck on a hard candy, to bring it up a bit, and this will not affect the test....I personnally do not ever go below 300, so I always take my insulin, regardless of what the doctors say, but that is me......you must know you own body, do you need to eat right away or can you wait after taking your insulin? everyone is different? Hi Merry, you see I have lots to say, because I have had it all, good for you, always, get your eyes examined, should go every six months I am 40 and I have glaucoma already, I go every 3 months to eye doctor, I love him he is great.....very concerned and understanding, keep going for check ups, they can help us these days, so we do not loose our sight!!!!!!! Good luck. Well, take care I know I am long winded , I hope I have helped.. Smile,

I'm sure your story, although delivered in a cheerful tone, struck fear in others' hearts, as it did in mine. I have heard it said that there is no such thing as a brittle diabetic - only one who has not yet worked out a good treatment plan. How many units of insulin daily - and what kinds? What other pills are you using? What is your diet? What diets have you tried so far? Are you seeing an endocrinologist and dietitian? Are you able to do any exercise? Do you have that problem where your food just lays in your stomach? That can really mess up your control. Have you lost your own insulin production for some reason? Did you take sulfonylureas for years previously? Susie
