After an hour and 3 phone calls to the desk, I went there in person to speak to the manager. They said they were looking for the " special box " that would make the bed vibrate when the phone rang. I told them I didn't want a vibrating bed, and can hear the phone just fine. I sugessted they just replace the TV in the room w/a difrent one that had closed captioning---they didn't believe me and sent a maintenence guy to play w/the remote for a half hour. Guest guest
Tony hit the nail on the head. Its easy to depend on others to provide for us, but we have to stand up and be heard. Our closed captions went off a couple of weeks ago. I complained to my husband and asked him to call our cable company about it. A day went by and I asked " Did you call the cable company? " Yes, he did... but the cable guy was clueless. I got the impression that NO ONE was taking the fact that our TV was totally inaccessible to me seriously. So the next day, the cable guy was supposed to come out in the morning and I stayed home all morning waiting for him. He never showed up. The NEXT day, I was livid! At lunch time, before I went back to work I blew up... I told my husband if the sound went off, he'd have someone out there to fix it that day, but just because the captions were off, its not a big deal! I told him if he didn't have them out there this afternoon, I was going to call and cancel the cable all together. When I got home from work, the captions were back. Something on the antenna on our roof had come unplugged and the cable company had never had it happen before. I hated to have to blow up, but it was the only way to get results. I didn't call myself, because you know how much of a hassle it is to call service companies by relay. I figured we'd have better results if my husband called... but I think I was wrong. We have to be assertive and demand accomodation and it will never be as important to anyone else as it is to us. na At 12:30 PM 5/18/99 EDT, you wrote: >From: TonyRomero@... > >TV, just swap it w/another one. Marie >> Okay I'm not who you asked but I can answer this The Motorola Bag Phone Handset fits into the acoustic couplers of the UltraTec " Compact TTY " You can get an Accessory through your Cellular Provider for almost all handheld phones that recreates an RJ-11 jack (wall phone outlet) complete with dial tone. So if you have a TTY that plugs into the wall, it'd plug into this jack and work with your cellular. The accesory is kinda pricey, about $200 from Motorola and it's a little box with a cable that plugs into your phone. Pete

I am sure there are plus and minus that I don't know about, but sure appreciate your input/suggestions. Marie >> Alot of it depends on what you want to use it for. Keep in mind the Wyndtel while it is two way, it's sorta like email. You can only have a " conversation " by sending messages back and forth. It's not a phone. I think there was someone on here who has a WyndTel and the system Earl mentioned is basically the same thing. a portable TTY is about $200, if you look in Soundbytes (www.soundbytes.com) they have whole setups, the Phone and Everything. I would *not* recommend buying the phone from them because you usually get the phone for next to nothing from the cellular provider when you sign up for a plan. The Data Networks (that WyndTel and the System Earl uses) generally work in or near metropolitan areas, if you live in the sticks like I do. There is no coverage but there is cellular coverage. A " bag phone " is like a cellular phone that gets installed permanately in the car (has a handset like a normal phone basically) and it's connected to a small bag about the size of a large purse that has the antenna, battery, transmitter etc. Pete

Guest guest
Hey Marie, I often wonder about the same problem. I have a lot of night classess and my car broke down at the parking lot. I had to ask assistance from two females to call campus police and explain to them what had happened. Since there wasn't many public TTYs that I knew of, I was stuck, so I was wondering about the TTY that hooks up to a cell phone. But since technology is where it is at today, is there a possibility of a laptop/tty/cellphone available out there? Just asking...
