I have a very sedentary job, and I find that I need the afternoon snack, but

not the mid-morning one. This is one of the most YMMV parts of DM. It's

great that you're seeing the dietitian again soon.

You may find that your dietitian doesn't want you to cut carbs as much as

some of us feel is necessary, and you'll have to work that part out with her

and for yourself. I eventually went in and just told the CDE what I was

doing (started with SugarBusters, then cut back from there toward Atkins).

She was really ticked off until she saw the numbers. I think she's still

ticked off (I don't see her clinically anymore, but now I'm working at the

same hospital) but she really hasn't got a leg to stand on because it's

working for me.

Good luck.

You are doing well, , please don't worry. Talk to your dietician, and

if I were you, I would keep a log for a while, noting everything you eat,

how many grams of carbs, and testing 1 1/2 hours after eating, every time

you eat. This will tell you how your meals and snacks effect your bg's.

And while you're at it... <g> it wouldn't hurt to test before you snack,

either. If your bg's are above 100 (this is my opinion only), you probably

don't need a snack. Some folks can't handle eating after 7 pm, or their

morning fasting bg's are way high. Food (sorry!) for thought, eh?

Above all, don't panic or worry. I believe that as long as you're willing

to get a handle on your disease and learn, you'll be fine, .

My so-called low-carb diet

Hi, all,

That comes to 180 grams of carbohydrate each day. I don't know about anyone

else, but that sounds only moderate carb to me, not low carb.

Being so new to this, I thought that was low carb since it's a whole lot

less carbs than I was used to eating (in my " past life " ). I could skips the

snacks pretty easily, cutting it down to 135 a day, I suppose, but my

dietician made it sound as if I should eat every few hours for energy

purposes. But since I have a desk job with only a moderate amount of

running around, maybe I wouldn't need that much " energy " during a work day.

What do you all think? I don't feel qualified or knowledgeable enough to

just go ahead and modify my dietician's instructions just yet, but I am

seeing her again on Monday the 29th and I'll mention it. This has me

worried now. I thought I was doing so well!

In a nutshell, , your dietitian is full of crap. Listen to us ... we are

the soldiers in the trenches. I hate to put this in such black-and-white

terms, but unless you can find a better-informed dietitian, you will have to

choose between us and her.

Believe me, , Susie is right. This messsage is straight and to the

point and it is correct. Follow the low carb way of life and your

numbers and life will be incontrol.

(yes, I am still lurking around)
