Guest guest
, I don't know if it is from the TC surgery or just surgery in general. Every surgery I have ever had (all 3 were back surgeries) have always messed up my cycle. It is totally inevitable that I will start my period the day or two after surgery. It has always been such a pain in the butt to have to deal with my period, on top of the catheter and having movement so painful, let alone not being able to shower! But that is just something that I have grown to accept will happen when I have surgery. I mentioned it to my MD and he said that surgery is so stressful on the body that it can cause cycle changes. Also, if you take BCP, and you miss a pill the day after surgery (when you're too knocked out to know they didn't give it to you) or longer (if you're kept knocked out longer), then it can cause your cycle to start. Shortly after my third surgery, I went 6 mos without a period. I finally visited my GYN and was relieved that there wasn't anything wrong - and even said that there anything wrong with going without a cycle - it won't cause problems - I loved the 6 months without it and didn't miss it one bit! But she did give me a hormone pill to take to kind of kick-start my cycle. I just took one pill a day until my cycle started. I think I took 2-3 pills b/c they caused the worst PMS in my life. I was so violent, angry, pissed. I could not control my temper. But what I took was enough to kick start it and it has been going regularly ever since. If you don't have a history of GYN issues, (personally) I would wait until about 6 months without a period, and then see your MD if your " aunt " hasn't come to visit yet. If you have a history of GYN issues or if you are closer to menopause, then I would visit sooner, just to make sure there aren't any pressing issues. I was 25 and 27, respectively for my 3 surgeries. Regardless, you have to do what makes you feel comfortable and will put you at ease. Guest guest
My second surgery I thought " I was out of the woods " with getting my period but it came my third day in the hospital and I was TOTALLY un- prepared for it. The nurses were quite understanding and even went out and got some supplies for me as they had nothing appropriate on the floor -- as it came in the middle of the night and because I had a pain pump I could use at any time (it wasn't set to every 8 minutes etc) I didn't feel any cramping .. just woke up scared & freaked out with bloody sheets. My third surgery I planned around my cycle and managed to luck out and be " right on " and finished the day before I was to go in hospital. So, yes it's very common -- as it's a HUGE GREAT stressor to your entire system. > > Same here.
