Guest guest
, Sorry to hear about the pain. Its tough when you cannot break the pain cycle - either head or back. If you have migraines, that would be my first suspect, rather than something new in your back causing them. Especially if the headache feels similar to the migraines you typically have - except this one just won't quit. When I have headaches (not migraines, but chronic headaches I have had since I had my first cerebral bleed). But as is common with migraines is an aura. I don't necessarily " auras, " but when I get nauseated and cannot find a reason, sometimes I will find out why I was nauseated when the headache comes on. When I get the headaches, it is common for me to feel dizzy, photosensitive, sound sensitive and even have problems speaking. Do you see a neurologist or other MD for your migraines? If your meds are not working to stop them, I would give them a call and let them know what is going on. Maybe they can call you in something or work you in for a visit to evaluate what is going on an how you can stop them. If the headaches feel different or the MD that treats your headaches isn't too keen on seeing you, you can always call the MD that sees you for your back and see if he/she can help you. I used to see a neurologist for my headaches, but I have been fortunate that my physiatrist that has been giving me the pain meds I need to treat the headaches when I get one, so I haven't had to see my neuro in a while, since things haven't changed. If you have pretty significant changes in your gait b/c of neuro damage from the TCS, then that could be the source of your leg pain. I would make a visit to the MD that treats you back and have him her evaluate it. It may be caused by problems with your gait (putting stress on joints or bones in an awkward way), or it could be caused by spasticity making you legs tight (which may further affect your gait), or even neuropathy. A visit to your MD, should be able to identify the source of the pain and determine the best course to treat it - meds, bracing (such as AFOs), using crutches (to take some of the stress off your legs). But I would definitely see your MD, as changes in your gait can also increase your back pain. Guest guest
Sorry to hear you having problems . I know this may sound silly but I sufferred from headaches for years and finally tracked it down to diet....artificial sweeteners to be exact. I cant even have them in my toothpaste or gum I am so sensitive to them. I cant have steak sauce or a lot of marinades either, not sure why, maybe MSG? I have had two episodes in my life where I wound up in ER with headaches so severe that my BP was like 240/130....they weren't the food allergy headaches...or migraines...in fact they thought I was stroking but my head scanned clear. After doing research over the years I think now that they may have been related to a " bleed " in my spinal cord...if I ever have another one (God forbid) I will have them do a spinal tap to see if I have blood in my CSF. Anyway, as for the ankle and knee pain, me too. I can't even get upstairs to my bedroom half the time. I think mine is related to my gait as well. When we can't walk right it has to affect our joints I know that I have to use a cane alot and for sure that messes with my posture and alignment. Also the neuropathy probably doesn't help. Ask your NS about it all, do you have Chiari (spelling?) that could certainly cause headaches I would think... Well, hope you figure it out, headaches suck Take Care, Subject: Headaches and Joint pain To: tetheredspinalcord Date: Wednesday, August 20, 2008, 6:45 PM I have been suffering from these horrid headaches which are a mix between a hangover and a migraine - i cant shift them - i dont really know if its related or in my head - so to speak also i have been getting pains in my ankles and knees - i am guessing that its due to the fact that walk badley when i do walk but is making walking harder.
