Hi,

My DD is one that had the " hidden " tethered cord. It was hidden in

that her MRI looked normal. We got a 2nd opinion from someone with a

ton of experience and he said though her MRI was indeed normal the

actual spinal cord looked pulled a tiny bit forward instead of

centered. But it WAS normal in that it wasn't thickend or fatty and

ended in the right spot on the MRI.

We chose to have the surgery b/c she was facing kidney damage and

when he finally got in there it WAS tethered cord, it was the

thickened filum kind. But he didn't know till he was in there. No

idea why it didn't show up on MRI for her....

My MRI showed a tether but when they got in there it was actually a

double tether and split and extra cord from L1-L4. Which did not show

up on the MRI due to where it was conected on the back part of my

spine. All the MRI read was thick filum!

Lots of tethers and retethers are hidden on MRI, usually because the person

looking doesnt have the proper experience, sometimes just super diffiucult to

diagnose because of how & nbsp;and/or where it is tethered. & nbsp;Sometimes they

resort to surgery because of symptoms alone and when they do they find the cord

tethered even though it looked " normal " on MRI. & nbsp;

Hi

My daughter has had 2 MRI's with contrast--she had no side effects at all.

Be sure to ask for a copy of the scan on a DVD Rom--it helped us to have it to

look at after talking to the dr--we could take our time and look through the

scan as we learned about Ellie's NTD. Good Luck,

Mindy

MRI question

My 2.5 year old dd is having an MRI without and with contrast and a CSF flow

study done.

Are there any after or side effects of having the dye in her spinal cord??

They whole thing gives me the ebbie geebies! I'm sure it fine, but the thought

of dye in her cord creeps me out.

Also, I read somewhere here that someones baby had TC that was " hidden " on MRI -

how was it hidden and how did they finally figure out it was TC????
