I have found that focusing on " others " and thinking what " others " should do or should not do, what they should or shouldn't think/say... doesn't really work. Even true inquiry can not happen in these situations as it based on a blatant lie. We lack any real control and knowledge of what others should think/do/say and any effort do so leads to a painful 'karmic' cycle no matter how much we 'work' on it! In addition, when inquiring " thoughts " ; it is very important to separate out the REAL thought from numerous superficial surface thoughts that are simply the outgrowth of few [and in some situations just One] CORE thoughts. Until that Root thought is clearly identified, questioned and understood " working " on secondary thoughts remains an endless cycle as the same root thought keeps giving birth to many new incarnations. It is only after we reach this root thought and see it clearly that the inquiry becomes really effective in cutting the 'pain cycle'! Until we do that new [stressful] thoughts originating from this root thought keep on offshooting.
Guest guest
Hi Adithya, For me the work (which I don't do on paper, too lazy yet) is like a computer virus, whenever you run a mental operation you get a pop- up " Can you Know that that's True? Let's look into it " or when you judge someone " Turn it around " . It slowly works on the system decrstructing it whether you intentionally want it too or not. I think the things you mentioned really help facilitate the work but I believe thought does come before feeling. For instance a friend betrays you, you feel like you where kicked in the stomach. You win the lottery, a great weight has been lifted from your shoulders. Mark > > Byron is one of my favorite > teachers. She teaches a very powerful > method of thought inquiry called > *work*! Guest guest
Dear Adithya, Thank you for sharing your observations on The Work. You wrote: " However, my experience with " doing the work " is that it must involve following: - Full Attention to the Present Moment! - Clearly and Completely seeing of what you " feel " at this Moment! - Clearly seeing of what you are thinking at this Moment! I do not agree with your words " must involve " . I do believe that if we could always accomplish those three excellent suggestions of yours, the quality of our results would be enhanced, but I would not want people to read your post and get the idea that they must know how to do those things in order to properly do The Work. If I had read your post 8 years ago before meeting I might not hav even considered doing The Work? I believe that The Work is meant to be FUN. Guest guest
> " However, my experience with " doing the work " > is that it must involve following: > - Full Attention to the Present > Moment! *****There is only the Present Moment. Attention goes where it goes, regardless of where we think it should go. > - Clearly and Completely seeing of what > you " feel " at this Moment! > - Clearly seeing of what you are thinking > at this Moment! > > I do not agree with your words " must involve " . *****Ditto. Note a Core Belief that the creator of The Work has stated: " There is a right way to do The Work. " It's just a belief, that's all. And some are drawn to the apparent safety and security of dogma. > I do believe that if we could always accomplish those three > excellent suggestions of yours, the quality of our results would be > enhanced, *****Dear Steve, how so? How are the results lacking? If they could be enhanced, something, then, must be.....absent. What do see is missing? > but I would not want people to read your post and get the > idea that they must know how to do those things in order to > properly do The Work. *****Why not? If you wish to go there, consider: what is the underlying belief behind this want? > If I had read your post 8 years ago before > meeting I might not hav even considered doing The Work? > I believe that The Work is meant to be FUN. *****I believe that The Work is. ;-) You are a pleasure, Steve. Thank you.
Guest guest
Dear Steve, I heard him as " must involve, to REALLY *dig* into it " . So, I hear you both share the same story. And thank you for the warning!
