Guest guest
, Woiuld you please send me a bit more information if you can: the judge's name, address, when this happened, the circumstances of his pronouncement. I think it could be a worthwhile project for the NDSC Self-Advocates to take on a campaign of educating him about people who have Down syndrome. Judie P.S. What was Moses' speech impediment? I saw " The Ten Commandments " and he sounded fine to me. (LOL) ************************************** See what's free at http://www.aol.com. Guest guest
Is this something that happened when Charley was born or was this more recent? Just a note: when you are writing mosaic Down syndrome make sure the " m " and the " s " are not capitalized. There is no way for us to confirm about Greg Maddux, so please do not include that in your letter. If he does not have it, you could get into a lot of trouble. Kristy agirlnamedsuess1 wrote: Here is a copy of a 'letter to the Editor' that I intend to send to a metro atlanta newspaper. Recently, a Cobb County Superior Court judge told my husband and I people should not knowingly have a child when the likelihood such child will have a special need (i.e. a speech impediment). Further, he thought people with Mosaic Down Syndrome, or people with children who have Mosaic Down Syndrome, should not be reproducing. His exact comment was, " My blood pressure is rising… " just to even stomach the thought, when he found out that my husband and I were having our fourth child together after one diagnosis of Mosaic Down Syndrome and a familial diagnosis of `enhanced familial development'. Supposedly being such an " educated " man, I found it " odd " that he further asked the following question: " So, it is likely that THIS child (the one I was carrying) will have the genes of you and your husband? " I wonder if he ACTUALLY thought that this child might have someone else's genes? (Perhaps the neighbor's genes?) Additionally, I think he has his job title confused with his own DNA because he must think his genes are " SUPERIOR " to everyone else's. In my opinion, people with this mentality think they themselves are flawless human beings; they have a superiority complex and feel deep down that they are better than everyone else, generally speaking. These types of people don't value differences in all human beings, which make us as a people highly individual and unique. I had a final comment for this judge, which I will repeat, " You are not a supreme being to anyone. No human being is flawless. And Moses (from the Bible) had a speech impediment. " I do wonder if he is a supporter of MLB? Further, I wonder if he knows that the famous Greg Maddux has Mosaic Down Syndrome? I wonder if he could face him and tell him that he is not worthy of living or reproducing? How does America feel about the insensitive and ignorant comments of this judge? Any comments from those with a child or familial inheritance with Down Syndrome? (BTW...I was told that Greg Maddux, formerly of the Atlanta Braves, does indeed have MDS. Can anyone confirm this before I send this letter???)
Guest guest
Yes! This is recent...March 22. You are correct about Greg Maddux... I debated that myself since I was just told that by a doctor at Charlie Hart's surgery 9but I have been unable to confirm as of yet.) I even wondered if I should call attention to the judge's name. I was so infuriated that I was crying! > Here is a copy of a 'letter to the Editor' that I intend to send to > a metro atlanta newspaper. > > Recently, a Cobb County Superior Court judge told my husband and I > people should not knowingly have a child when the likelihood such > child will have a special need (i.e. a speech impediment). Guest guest
This is something that we have heard as well. So it is interesting that your doctor has brought it up. I think we will have to call Greg Maddux and confirm this once and for all. Please let us know more about the circumstances surrounding this Judge and why you were in court and what he said. Guest guest
Guys, the only thing I can find relating Greg Maddux to Down syndrome is a couple of blogs where people who are not fans of his are trying to be derogatory by saying that Gregg Maddux looks like he has Down syndrome. Making a claim like that without any evidence to back it up would only make our organization look bad and could very easily reverse all the good that has been done in the last few years -- not to mention how it would damage our credibility for future reference. Think of all the parents who would not be able to be helped because the only organization that could have helped them has been discredited. We don't need to reach for a celebrity to be " like our kids " in order for them to have worth, AND we don't have to try and " prove " our kids' worth to the world. All our kids have worth, and those who cannot see that have more problems that any child with any disability. A. Special Educator Simon Kenton HS 11132 Madison Pk. Guest guest
It was rumored years ago that he had MDS. And, we all tried to find information concerning it. And, I totally agree with you, we do not need celebrity status for IMDSA. My only thought in contacting him was because we have heard so many rumors, that if it were true, perhaps we could offer him information on MDS, in case he is curious or has health problems that need to be addressed.
