Hi All,

Kind of longist but here it is.

Just joined the list and had a chance to look around, you know to

get a feel of things.

You all look like a great bunch with many different issues so I know

I'll be comfortable here.

My name is lyn and I live in Canada. I'm fortunate that I do

have a doctor that cares about me and also understands that I know

my body better then she does.

Wasn't always the way. I remember when I decided to look for a

doctor close to home, back in 2000. The doctor I had had was no

longer practicing and I was going through some real extreme pain. I

already knew that I had a perforated disk at that time, a CT scan

had confirmed it. So I brought the results of that scan to this new

doctor close to my home and she gave me antidepressants.(apparently

my back was depressed I guess) Later on when I brought in forms for

disability for her to fill out she freaked out on me and began going

on like this had all been some game to eventually get on disability

or something.

So that was the last time I saw that one, but at least I got

satisfaction and had a letter place in her medical file on the issue.

I found a great doctor through a friend of mine and although it

means travelling some I have never been in better hands.

When my doc isn't sure of something she isn't afraid to say she

isn't or to refer me to a specialist. If I hear of some different

medication that is working for someone else, she is willing to let

me try it.

I know I'm listened to when I meet up with my doctor each month and

that she isn't just making conversation when she asks how I've been

since last time.

She is willing to let me adjust my pain medication, either up or

down depending on how things are during that time of year.

Since 2000 after many different other tests to learn what else was

going on with my today so far we have added fibro, cfs and arthritis

to the list. But hey at least we ruled out Lupus, HIV, Carpal Tunnel

and a few others.

The one thing I like about groups like this is the huge diversity of

the group, the many different things going on not to mention the

floating of ideas and thoughts.

It's great to be around people that understand without having to

have explanations. Always hate having to try and explain things to

others that just non and look at you like you're nuts.

Ok it was long but it's done.

" ...she gave me antidepressants. (apparently

I went thru that and wished I'd thought to say that. I remember saying the pain

was depressing....wish I hadn't said that. All of sudden you're in pain 'cause

you're depressed....even if it's the other way around. ANYTHING to not give out

pain meds. jeez.

I also have a doctor now who trusts me and treats me. It took getting my

disability and medicare to get the insurance to see my regular doc who knows me.

I, also, am happy you have a good doc who isn't afraid to treat the pain.

Clinical depression is something best diagnosed by a shrink if they need to rule

it out.
