NEW IPSWICH – A leaky roof and mold is forcing School Administrative

Unit 63 to look for new quarters.

The main concern is health of the office staff, Superintendent

Francine Fullam said.

A committee formed by the SAU board in February has looked at

several sites from New Ipswich to Milford.

SAU 63 staff currently are in the New Ipswich municipal complex,

sharing a building with the police department.

Its portion of the roof has been leaking for some time, according to

Fullam, and she has spoken with the state Department of

Environmental Services about air quality.

The SAU board, comprised of the school boards of the four districts

within the SAU – Mascenic Regional, Wilton-Lyndeborough ative,

Wilton Elementary and Lyndeborough Elementary – authorized spending

up to $3,000 for air testing.

Fullam said the committee has looked at a former doctor's office in

New Ipswich and at space in the Pine Valley Mill in West Milford.

Having offices in Milford would not be a problem, Fullam said, and

she already has talked to the state about it.

When the offices move, furniture and files will have to be

decontaminated, officials said.

The SAU offices moved from Wilton to New Ipswich in 2000.

The offices also include the SAU Special Education Department.

New Ipswich voters approved replacing the building's roof at Town

Meeting in March. Officials have inspected the site and are

requesting bids for repairs.

The town acquired the three buildings in the complex about 10 years

ago for unpaid taxes.

Other buildings house town offices, the public works department and

the Mascenic Automotive Technology Program.
