Jodie-

Madison sounds a bit like Aubrie re: hearing and communication. Aubrie

also has good hearing in one ear and perhaps a mild-moderate loss in the

other. She responds well to everything we tell her. She says " mama "

and " dada " and just started saying " all done " . " All done " doesn't sound

as clear as a typical child's first words, but it is definitely what

she's saying. She has a few other sounds she uses for words. Like for

" out " , she says something with an " o " sound. It's not good, clear

speech, but we know that she intends it as oral communication. So, she

seems to want to communicate with her voice a bit, but has difficulty

making the sounds.

She signs over a dozen words now. I have asked the therapists again if

the signing will interfere with speech development, and they have

assured me it will not get in the way and may even help. Others on the

list have said the same thing. I am thankful that Aubrie can

communicate with us so well. The only time I wish she was better orally

is when I think about her going to school. She'd sure have a better

time there if she talked instead of signed.

Just wanted to share our similar experience. It's wonderful that

Madison is no longer getting her night feeds. It sounds like she's

eating and drinking with no daytime boluses either. Does that mean

she's weaned off the tube completely now? Yahoo!!!! We just had

Aubrie's tube pulled about a month ago. It was so exciting! I'm glad

to hear that Madison is doing so well too!
