Guest guest
Samples are a wonderful suggestion that I think we all forget about. The only problem with samples, is that MDs rarely have samples of the older meds available. And when trying to keep the Rx bill low, it is always nice to try and start with those that have a generic first (such as Depakote, Tegretol, neurontin, tricyclic antidepressants). Topamax has been on the market for so long (yet STILL is not generic), so, even though it is brand, it is doubtful that many have samples (and it is STILL SO expensive). Lyrica and Cymbalta are meds that MDs are more likely to have samples of, but again, if they work, there is no generic available, and unless your insurance has a very comprehensive formulary for are high tier meds on most plans, you'll be paying out the nose for them. Not to mention if you are on Medicare and have to worry about the dreaded coverage gap (aka. Donut hole). Keppra may or may not be available via sample. Still, it never hurts to ask. Especially when so many of us take 1 week or less of a new med, only to figure out that it doesn't work or has some side effect that can't be managed, leaving us with 2-3 weeks of medication left =- expensive medication that we paid for and will never use. We can't even return the unused portion and get a refund. Thanks for reminding us to ask for samples when trying a new med! If you're interested in trying other neuropathy medications such as the above for mentioned I would suggest a trial run with samples. Much Love & Light to you ..
