Mold closes library

The Waccamaw Neck library is closed and will remain closed for about

two weeks due to a mold problem, said town County Library

Director Dwight McInvaill.

Last week, staff members returned from the weekend and there was a

strong smell of mold. A building inspection later showed that there

was some water damage within the walls of the ladies bathroom. The

source of the leak has not been identified, McInvaill said.

''Things like this happen when buildings approach 20 years. We're

glad we were able to catch the problem in time,'' he said.

Over the next few days, workers plan to escavate underneath the

building to determine the source of the leak. In the mean time, a

bookmobile has been set up in the parking lot. Patrons can still

drop-off library books at the current site in Pawleys Island.

It unclear how much it will cost to fix the problem, McInvaill said.

This is the second town County library branch that has been

closed temporarily in the last week. The town library branch

was closed April 30 for carpet replacement and is scheduled to re-

open May 14 or 16.

The re-opening will depend on whether the children's library will be

ready in time, McInvaill said.
