Guest guest
Okay, I did a little survey of my own today, I sat at a local restaurant and had coffee, while I was there I talked to 7 students that are completing High School this year and hope to be heading off to college. I talked to them about what they wanted to do in the future 5 of those kids wanted to go into the medical field but weren't certain what they wanted to do. They asked me about being a Paramedic. I explained being a paramedic was changing, I told them about the new Licensure Program, and the AAS degree requirement for Licensure. I made certain they understood that they could be Certified without the Licensure. They wanted to know what the average salary range was and I told them anywhere from $8.00 to $14.00 per/hour dependent on the employer and the area they chose to work in. Then they wanted to know about other medical field choices. I told them about LVN and RN. In the end all 5 of those kids decided they would make more money with the same amount of time spent in school becoming and RN rather than being a Paramedic. What happens later? Is there going to be a sever shortage of Paramedics later on? This is just one of my concerns, I thought I'd let you know what I found out from those kids and you could tell me what you think. It worries me. Ann Crabtree EMT-P annparam@... ------------------------------------------------------------------------
