Guest guest
we just got a SaniDry from Basement Systems USA and love it!!!!! It is a high-capacity, high-efficiency dehumidifier and air purifier in one. Not cheap but really keeps the whole house dry and clean!!! check it out at _www.basementsystems.com_ (http://www.basementsystems.com) or call 1.800.640.1500. The 800 # is the main office but they can give you the # for the office closest to you. We would be draining it directly into a drain, not using the bucket to catch the water. We need it for a 1000 square foot space. One of us has MCS, so we'd like one that is mostly metal and is easy to clean (of course, b/c of mold issues!). I found one at EL Foust co. that is metal, but it doesn't quite have the capacity we are looking for (only 9 pints). Has anyone else had success with any others? Guest guest
I would check out the brands carried by the allergy website, where they have things for people who are more sensitive to allergens and mold: National Allergy Supply, Allergy Be Gone (I think that is the name), Allergy Buyers Club to have 3. If money is no object and you want one that does large space or whole home, Sante Fe or their other line, Ultraire. Look for one that filters at same time so unit stays clean. I've seen some 'portable' stand alone room air conditioners, that act as dehumidifiers and have filtration also but ones I saw were for areas of about 400 sq ft so perfect for small apartment or large room or spot dehumidifying. > > Does anyone have a recommendation on a brand of dehumidifier? Guest guest
I believe there is a study showing that they significantly shorten the life cycle of (poultry mites?) and in my experience this has been true. I have four of the Energy Star kind. They still eat electricity, but they produce a lot of heat, so in the winter that may translate to a lower thermostat setting and make up for a bit of it. katiejill > > Does anyone here have first-hand experience with using them? > > And if so, what effect did they have in lessening the population of mites ( & /or biting) in your living space? > > thanks, > > D. >
Guest guest
, Thanks for sharing. When you say they shorten the life cycle, does this mean they lessen the population of the critters? Guest guest
Hi D, I ran a dehumidifier so that humidity was constantly lower than 40%, sometimes 20%. I didn't noticed a difference, but continue to run one just in case. J From: D <cerph1000@...>bird mites Sent: Wed, November 11, 2009 8:03:23 PMSubject: Re: Dehumidifiers ,Thanks for sharing. Guest guest
That is the effect, yes. I noticed a difference very quickly, but then I bought four (haggling down merchants at the end of the season) at once and cranked them up. Some folks have reported less measurable results, but I would not trade them for anything (except my " pets " , lol!) katie > > > > > > Does anyone here have first-hand experience with using them? > > > > > > And if so, what effect did they have in lessening the population of mites ( & /or biting) in your living space? > > > > > > thanks, > > > > > > D. > > > > > >
