Guest guest
Trip Report: Washington DC April 15-21, 2007 INTRODUCTION During the week of April 15-21, 2007 a team consisting of: • Jack Thrasher, Ph.D. (Toxicology/Immunology), • Dennis Hooper, M.D., Ph.D. (Genetic Medical Mycologist), • Cheryl Bossio, Esq. (Construction Defect/Toxic-Tort Litigation), • Overton, Esq. (Construction Defect/Toxic-Tort Litigation), • Vince Sugent, President, Detroit Metro Airport National Air Traffic Controller's Association, • R. Haney, traveled to Washington D.C. to meet with Congressional/Senate leaders, national veteran's organization administrators, and national lawyers association administrators concerning the significance of fungal exposures in human disease processes. Maridea Corporation, an environmental health research and consulting firm providing comprehensive research, building inspections, environmental testing, consulting, education, and environmental remediation and restoration was trip coordinator. Washington DC appeared as a natural " next step " to provide a focus with Congressional and Senate support in introducing a unified " United States Environmental Mold Exposure Health and Safety Act " based upon scientific evidence without the prejudice of vested parties. THE TEAM The team was assembled for this venture as a representative group of medical and scientific experts, educated environmental law advocates, some of whom had been victims of exposure to unhealthy mold-infested and contaminated environments. Sugent was engaging congressional members as to the seriousness of mold problems and employee health issues plaguing at least 15 air traffic control towers across the nation including Detroit, and the fact that many controllers who are subject to stringent FAA regulations are afraid to come forth with their illnesses for fear of retaliatory dismissal. This hit home for the team when Mr. Sugent received a call relating that two employees were called off the job and terminated from their positions. Dr. Thrasher, a prominent Toxicologist/Immunotoxicologist educated government leaders as to the complexity of the indoor environment. Molds produce mycotoxins which are secondary-chemicals or metabolites, but other microscopic pathogenic factors are present in an unhealthy environment. Bacteria, volatile organic compounds, particulate matter, dust mites, and other chemicals and molecular compounds should be considered as well as air humidity, temperature and circulatory patterns. He presented a scientific overview on this subject and intends to publish a scientific sequel on a peer- reviewed level later this coming year. Dennis Hooper, M.D., Ph.D. a medical pathologist, geneticist , and inventor and principal agent for Realtime Laboratories, Inc., a CLAI approved laboratory spoke to congressional members as to the issues, challenges and findings that a laboratory working with blood, urine, and sputum samples are facing relative to indoor mold infestations and contaminates. New methods in genetics allow fungal species and mycotoxin identification using enzyme linked immuno- sorbent assay (ELISA) and Immunoaffinity and Fluorometry (DNA) analysis of tissue, urine, sputum or other human secretion specimens. Dr. Hooper suggested scientific funding be dedicated to educational funding for medical physicians in the future for the advancement medical mycology. Dennis Hooper, M.D., Ph.D. provided vital scientific information from Realtime Laboratories, LLC , a CLIA approved facility capable of rapidly identifying individual mold species and mycotoxins in human tissues or bodily fluids. Attorneys Cheryl Bossio and Overton offered a their legal expertise and openly discussed the obstacles that victims face in obtaining American justice in what has become an unjust legal system, especially when they involve mold exposure. Less than 3 percent of the cases filed ever make it into a courtroom. The team counselors, Cheryl Bossio and Overton urged officials to mandate public disclosure allowing for full public scrutiny to help put justice and equality back into the litigation process. Legislation and direct support as well as full accountability is critical for those who accept the responsibility of authoring mold bills, such as the bill soon to be introduced by Congressman Conyers. ( " U.S. Toxic Mold Protection & Safety Act, previously introduced as HR-5040 in 2000, HR-1268 in 2002, and HR-1269 in 2005) In the course of our discussions the attorneys related that people suffering with symptoms and illnesses from exposures can ill-afford the high litigation costs involved in seeking justice against those who have acted unresponsively, neglectfully or willfully non compliant in the decontamination and cleanup of unhealthy rental units, schools, and offices. Medical physicians who treat exposure patients and provide expert opinion in court are often chastised by their own peers, are excluded from medical associations reviews of the subject, and face state medical boards, basically being labeled as " quacks " or as practicing out of the scope of " standard medical practice. " Cheryl Bossio gave an outstanding presentation in review of this and provided more technical information before administrative leaders of the American Association of Justice (formerly National Trial Lawyer's Association). WASHINGTON DC MISSION/OBJECTIVE Our primary focus was to educate federal lawmakers and special interest groups as to the scientific facts relating to the complex pathogenic environment to promote serious interest in order to enact responsible legislation that will educate and guide fields involved sufficiently to adequately protect the health and safety of American citizens. The Politicians in Washington clearly demonstrated a proactive interest in the welfare of the American public. They actively listened and posed thoughtful questions in response to the material presented. OUR CALL TO ARMS • Encouraged advanced medical training • Positively impact our fight against human disease. • Investigate dangerous and unhealthy exposures. • Investigate alleged fraudulent concealment, cohesion, and unethical activity • Mandate monitoring with public reporting and accountability • Punish unethical destructive behavior against others and publicly identify the perpetrators to discourage future such activity The team suggested consideration of classification of mold-related diseases as " reportable diseases " by healthcare professionals or facilities by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC)., Mold infections have proven to be more difficult to medically diagnose and treat than bacteria or viruses despite the availability genetic analysis to rapidly identify the disease. AUTHOR/COORDINATOR'S SUMMARY For eight years now, I have been planning a trip such as this. Each person who joined our venture in Washington DC paid their own expenses and were not sponsored by any other party. No conflict of interest issues were present. The teams mission was to initiate education as to the seriousness of health issues involving human exposures. We did our best as a cohesive team, and everyone gave outstanding presentations unified in the goal to help educate the decision makers of our nation. There are forces that do not want laws assisting in the health, safety, and prevention of indoor exposures to unhealthy environments to come into effect in the United States. As we push forward and demand full accountability and disclosure it becomes ever clearer who the obstacles are behind the prevention of initiation of safety measures with accountability for all Americans. We are truly fighting a war of economy verses human quality, and the stakes are much higher than other types of warfare because we are fighting invisible entities within our own fold. I believe in the American way of life, and that justice will endure. Guest guest
KC, , and All: I am " dead serious " when I tell you that we are going to expand upon our accomplishments in Washington, DC. We are working to bring national awareness to the plight of victims of unhealthy homes, schools, and offices, and bring what is known in Molecular Sciences studies and of Environmental Sciences as well, about the serious nature of pathogenic micro fungi (molds and yeasts) in human diseases. There are a great deal of politics being played involving serious issues of health that the medical health field and various government agencies (both state and federal), and it is time for all of us to scream as loud, long, and hard as we can to bring our national leaders in Washington into the 21st century regarding it. When a " moron " federal judge in land can set aside the testimony of a well-respected medical doctor such as Dr. Ritchie Shoemaker, and not even have enough science savvy to use a tool such as ‘Google Search’ to gain scientific knowledge of the seriousness of mold exposures from reliable and certified medical research institutes enough to see past the " smoke screen " that insurance companies are using to describe these exposures as causing only " allergies and asthma " problems it is time for that idiot to retire! The health and safety of humans far outweighs the economic status of the United States in my book. At least that is what the government wants us to believe every time they send a young man or woman to war! Believe in us they say... we are for " Under God, Individual, Liberty, and Justice! " So sign up for the military, and protect these Constitutional rights to " Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness " , however should you come home and find mold in hour home, school, or office building, we have " no laws, previsions, or regulations to protect your health and safety! " This, even though we have known without a doubt since the turn of the 20th century that mold microbes are extremely unhealthy in a hospital environment and almost any other environmental setting—including your home, school, or office! As you can see, we went to Washington, DC, not to “convince”, but to demonstrate clearly “what is occurring and what needs to be done about it” by our leaders in Congress—the 110th Congress…NOW! NOW, we need you and all the others on this Board to support our efforts by telling everyone you know, what you know. We need your help to give a copy of our Washington DC report to friends, neighbors, and family members. We need it read in churches, community meetings, and other civic gatherings. We need people to take the time to write or call their state and federal political leaders and COMPLAIN LOUDLY so that they get the drift… “WE ARE MAD AS HELL AND WE ARE NOT GOING TO TAKE IT ANY LONGER!” That is what we need, and we need to through out of office anyone who no longer takes our health and safety as a “1st Priority Interest.” And, that is just to get things started. We are serious, and it is time to get very serious about molds as opposed to bacteria and viruses. At least currently we can get most of them out of the human body. Again, thank you for your confidence and comments. God Bless you (all of you) and your continuing progress toward improved health. Guest guest
We all should write our Senators and Congresspeople. Things won't change unless we ALL do EVERYTHING we possibly can. They could even get worse. A lot of powerful interests want to see this issue, as well as the issue of toxics in the environment, generally, simply blamed on the victims, us. Thank you, Doug, I'm sure for all of us.
