Guest guest
Building housing state Supreme Court reopens after renovation The Daily Comet, NC http://www.dailycomet.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article? AID=/20070511/APN/705112059 The building that houses the state Supreme Court opened Friday after a two-year, $9.5 million makeover. Officials said it was about time North Carolina's Law and Justice Building got rid of decades of mold, mildew and rust. " This building was becoming uninhabitable, " said Dick Ellis, a spokesman for the state Supreme Court. " We were to the point where we couldn't even drink the water from the fountains because of all the crud. " Located across from the Capitol, the building is also home to the state Law Library and the Administrative Office of the Courts. Besides a thorough cleaning and general upgrades to fixtures, officials also had some of the building's historical features restored. The Supreme Court has newly polished walnut panels, deco lighting and original 1940 cork flooring. " It's an historic, beautiful building again with new character and modern pipes, " Ellis said.
