Guest guest
Hi everyone, I was given the opportunity to give testimony yesterday at Hearings on proposed legislation to change (and hopefully better) laws dealing with the rights of people with mental retardation. We had the ears of a committee of very influential legislators. I am hopeful that myself and the other parents chosen to give testimony were able to influence them of the need for change and infusion of money into the states Welfare system and waiting list for MR services. The young deaf woman who lives in the Assisted Living Home ( that I mentioned in my e-mails )also gave very impacting testimony on what life is like when you are denied the right of communication. The Representatives were very moved by her testimony. I hope it's a step forward in making more services available to people with MR and for legislators to know there's a need for individuals and their caregivers to be given appropriate choices in services needed. I came home on such a high from hope. So many people are at the threshold of getting help. I just had to share my optimism. ) Vicki mom to (23)
