Guest guest
Tenants Claim Apartment Mold Is Making Them Sick POSTED: 7:35 am PDT May 22, 2007 UPDATED: 10:53 am PDT May 22, 2007 http://www.kptv.com/news/13364890/detail.html Two Milwaukie families said their landlord is ignoring a mold problem in their apartment complex that is making their children sick. The families said they've reported the problem to their landlord at the Holly Acres Apartments several times, but nothing has been done. and Thayer's bathroom ceiling leaks water from the apartment upstairs, but it's the mold that keeps coming back that has them concerned. The Thayers said they've treated the mold in their bathroom and their son's room with bleach multiple times, and it continues to come back. " He keeps coughing and he can't sleep at night because it keeps him awake, " said Thayer. " When this stuff really grows, I sneeze 50 times in the morning before I can stop, " said tenant Lampley. Lampley said he's replaced the drywall in his bathroom himself three times, but claimed that the blacks spots will soon be back. Lampley and the Thayers said they've reported the mold problem more than a dozen times to the apartment manager. Apartment manager Vicky Kinney said she never received written maintenance requests from the Thayers or the Lampleys. FOX 12 tried contacting the property management company that operates the Holly Acres apartment complex but they never returned reporters' calls. Guest guest
Strong bleach can cause respiratory problems because its caustic. It sounds to me as if they have not eliminated the sources of moisture. If people first eliminate the sources of moisture, then remove the porous moldy materials (and that includes the sheetrock) and then scrub the semiporous things like wood with soap, water and bleach, then rinse WELL, that is the best. All moldy sheetrock needs to be thrown out, not 'treated with bleach'. Bleach can hurt people. The best thing is (wearing PPE) to throw out the moldy sheetrock, then scrub the inside the wall cavities and physically remove any more mold thats there with the scrubbing and soaking up the dirty water, then rinse and then dry the wood off and then put up the new sheetrock.. > The Thayers said they've treated the mold in their bathroom and their son's room with bleach multiple times, and it continues to come back.
