Conor has to buy something everytime we go somewhere so I only bring him when I intend to let him get something. Even at the milkstore he has to play the crane game. I don't really mind, but it does make going shopping a nightmare because we become more focused on what he is going to buy rather than why I was going there to begin with. went through this too...and only now can he really understand not getting something everytime, without a major meltdown. Guest guest
We do good, now. Going to the grocery store used to feel like staring down the barrel of a .45; you were just waiting for the " BANG!!!!! " Trips to the store are perfect these days, thanks to dad being a hard- ass (no concessions to tantrums...heh) and mom being a harder-ass (no concessions to anything). We've got a very defined pattern, big surprise, that we follow. And it always includes buying chocolate milk, so they wait patiently until that moment arrives (at the end of the trip). Sometimes a long wait in the checkout line can get a bit tense...but that's what the box of crackers you bought are for...lol. > > how does everyone's kids do when they don't get to buy > something when they go to the store? > > > Pam: either you buy him something or he doesn't go with. > > Kerri > > Mom to: > Mitchel 6, Autistic > 8.5 - NT > See the Family: http://www.johnswdwpage.com/family.htm > " I thank God and America for the right to live and raise my family > under the flag of tolerance, democracy and freedom. Boone doesn't ask for anything. He .likes to hold things, but always hands them back. Usually to trade for something else to hold. He always acts suspicious when I do buy him something -- like I wasn't supposed to remove it from the store. I guess I'm lucky (so far). Guest guest
is pretty good in stores, doesnt really ask for stuff. If he wants something from the store he usually asks to buy it and then we go to the store. One day, after we had breakfast, he insisted we go to rite-aid to buy a toothbrush (has a real obsession with them). Once we got in there, he had a meltdown because he wanted to take it out of the package before we paid for it. Guest guest
Pam, Most of the time, they don't want to " buy " anything. But I have to be careful around books and Sesame Street Toys. If, by chance, they spot something that they do want................. it's a done deal. There is getting out of that store in one piece unless they have it. Everything else, they just examine, and usually give back to me, if not chuck it away from them. That sure sounds like one big-time shopper you have on your handS! Putter is in a newly flexible stage where he will eat all kinds of potato chips. In fact, he is practically NT. After all he got the same score on the NT test as you!
