Guest guest
Hi Jackie, I'm so sorry to hear about your sick grand daughter and that you had to spend the nite in the ER. But, am very to hear that you were able to get her the help she needs. I don't think we're all advocating a one size fits all approach. There's not just one thing wrong with any of us and certainly CSM isn't at all the only solution to most of our problems. I, too, have many other issues (including Lyme, which brings an entire other dimension to the illness), I just know that CSM was a key to my wellness. And, I just don't know of any treatment for binding/removing the mycotoxins that is more effective and would love to hear and learn about other approaches that might work. I provided the link to Klinghardt's protocol, which does include many other approaches, amongst them CSM. The CSM is the only protocol I have found that is in common amongst the top Lyme, chronic fatigue, CFS practitioners. I totally agree that many folks need to stabilize other health issues before taking CSM. I spent 3 years dealing with the Lyme, many, many, many allergies (2 years of NAET treatments @ $95.00 a pop), many rounds of liver detox and anti-candida treatments and getting my thyroid medication at an appropriate dosage, dietary changes (gluten- free, dairy-free, primarily organic, etc.) and adding supplements to compensate for the lack of absorption from the celiac disease (B vitamins especially as I have a methylation defect) before I was well enough to be able to even make the trip to see Dr. Shoemaker and start the CSM. So, again, I agree 100% that you need to work with a doctor/practitioner that will deal with alot of other issues that many of us have. There are many, many layers of illness for many of us. We're not criticizing your treatment approach, we're just wanting to know what alternatives to CSM there might be, since there are many that don't tolerate CSM. No matter what approach folks follow, they need to find a good health practitioner to work with them and there are certainly risks with all treatment approaches (alternative and mainstream). But, I do think it is important that we educate ourselves as to the treatment options, so that we find practitioners that can help us. Many of us have spent thousands of dollars on treatments that don't help (and in my case some of them did more harm than good). And, yes, it is very difficult because we are all different and what works for one may not work for another. And, you are 100% accurate that any practitioner needs to do an appropriate differential diagnosis (including gathering a complete health history) to make sure there aren't other health issues. BUT, I really think the crowd here is very self-selecting, in that I really doubt there's much of anyone on this list that has any self-doubt that mold has made them ill - the problem most folks have is finding a doctor that will believe them. I honestly did not want to believe it myself. I went to Dr. Shoemaker initially for treatment for my Lyme toxins, only to have him tell me on my first visit that I should move out of my house (I had told him about a roof leak that we had repaired - I was totally ignorant about mold toxins). And again, that's not to say, that we don't all have other health issues that need addressing, as again I spent almost 3 years doing that and still knew that there was really something wrong that none of the doctors (alternative or mainstream) was addressing. In short, I still think the information you can provide is very helpful because it appears that your practitioner focuses on improving the terrain before she starts targetted treatment. I think that's a really good approach and I'm personally quite interested in the order in which she approaches things as I've done things in a more random way as I've been through many doctors in the past 4 years and I've read different protocols in terms of the order of treating problems (e.g., heavy metals first vs. heavy metals last, etc.).
