Guest guest
You have to remember everyone is different. But, I think most will tell you that is a way to find out if your home is making you sick. Many here found out after being away from their home for a short period they did feel better. We did. Then we'd go back and everyone would be sick again. Sometimes sicker. We had to stay gone though for a few days. My daughter though was soooo sick that we had to stay gone over 10 days for us to see a difference in her. So, I think it depends on the person and the amount of exposure, how their body reaacts, and if you are in a safe place. But, after we finally left the home for good she was doing much better w/in 14 days. It took 2 months though for her puking to stop. Even though she continued to struggle with her illness and the puking, the last violent episode was (I'll never forget the day, it seemed like a miracle) Christmas Day 2002. So, I knew it was our home making her sick. The rest of us felt better within 2 weeks from the move. [] re-enter home after weekend away, will I notice a difference in symptoms Hello, Im just wondering if I would notice a difference after being out of my moldy home for the weekend? I did feel like i could breathe better while away, slept better too. Didnt wake up with stiffness. I guess i will see tomorrow morning. just wanted to know your thoughts
Guest guest
thanks for sharing your story. im planning on staying gone from this house all next week to see if i really feel better or not. Hopefully it is a safe house. Its tough for me, i live on the 3rd floor, the roof leaks, and i can smell a musty smell up here. but of course the rest of my family doesnt believe me. They arent as dibilitated as me. its frustrating. Did you see Dr shoemaker? > > You have to remember everyone is different. Guest guest
Yes, we did see Dr. S but until last year. It didn't work out well for us. The entire experience for us was not a good one. But, not everything works for everyone. Many have had a very good experience. So, you have to do what you feel is right for yourself. Not just because others are doing it. There are many things that help people. Many here have not been able to see Dr. Shoemaker. Some are trying other things. Even Dr. S says he doesn't claim to have the cure and that it isn't for everyone. You'll also find your not alone w/family and friends not believing you. Most of us went thru that and still do everyday. But, you are lucky to have this group. They will support and help you. Some of us didn't even know about this group when it happened to us. How much easier it would have been had we had it, we wouldn't had the feeling that we were crazy. We always like to remind new members though that just because something works for one it WILL NOT always work for the next person. Something one person can tolerate to smell or be around WILL NOT be the same for you. Medications one uses will not work for the next and so forth. Ex: My daughter has no problem w/new carpet. Some here cannot even walk into a room w/new carpet w/out becoming violently ill. Some here use alot of essential oils, there are only 2 or 3 my daughter can stand, so we don't use them. My son can tolerate a moldy situation for about 2 weeks if it is low doses, then he begins to have behavioral problems. My daughter becomes violently ill within 3 days no matter how low it is and ends up in the hospital. So, you have to learn how to read yourself. If you can find out what your triggers are, then you will start to feel better much quicker. Remember, it may not just be the mold you are re-active to. Because once you are exposed to mold many find that they cannot tolerate certain chemicals, foods, odors and so forth. Just keep this mind. Enjoy the group!!!! -Moderator [] Re: re-enter home after weekend away, will I notice a difference in symptoms thanks for sharing your story. im planning on staying gone from this house all next week to see if i really feel better or not. Guest guest
Mich, A weekend is pretty short to notice a difference but I noticed I felt better when I was at work, which is almost immediately but was so subtle wasn't sure that perhaps it wasn't psychological...being around people, etc. However don't like my job...so couldn't be too good for my psych. Anyway, I moved to an extended stay motel for awhile and the longer I stayed there, the better I felt and that is the way I discovered for sure it was my house. Most importantly my **newist*** symptom of something going wrong with my health **COMPLETELY** disappeared and has not returned (very strong shooting pains down one of my legs). I haven't had one since I left almost 9 months now. I used to not be able to move, pain was so intense. I would grab my leg and sit down and rub it until it passed, very scarey. I had moved out of extended stay place and into inexpensive but clean apt with wood floors. Although there are some 'smells' here that aren't too good in basement and in staircase, I have felt better than at home. However, how I feel does not change immediately upon entering my house. It takes awhile to affect me. As say, it probably depends on just how sick and how 'good' air where you go to. Look over place well. Make sure it looks like it is in good repair. Use your nose and make sure place smells fresh and clean. May says in his book to close doors in house/apt and leave closed for a day (if that is possible) and if there is odor when you open them up, there may be a problem there also. If it has been closed up and smells okay when you open room up, it's a good sign. Don't move into another air quality problem. They don't have to be all mold. Although that is the most common. > > Hello, > > Im just wondering if I would notice a difference after being out of my moldy home for the weekend? >
Guest guest
Thanks Barb, there was a bit of a smell in the laundry room of this house, but it has a door and the rest of the house doesnt have an odor...but i will see when i go back this week. Do most cities have extended stay motels? I may look into that. Its tough for me, because i supposedly have lyme disease too....and when i was able to work , i felt worse at work. I sat under a vent and wonder if that may have helped make me so sick. My symptoms are mostly stiff pelvic muscles, nauseau, stiff neck, memory problems, getting confused in a new place, slight motion sickness, fatigue, bladder problems(intercestial cystitis) some numbness in my right fingers, and right side of face. > > > > Hello, > > > > Im just wondering if I would notice a difference after being out of > my moldy home for the weekend? > > >
Guest guest
Most hotels that have small kitchens in rooms are extended stay and they have a daily rate that is much higher than the extended stay rate. The longer you expect to stay, the lower the rate. After one month, by law they are able to reimburse you any taxes they charged you since beyond a month is considered renting, not a hotel stay, so you save a percent of charge there also. It generally is not cheap but nothing about being sick is, and it's nice because there is no lease and you only need to give them 24 hour notice you are leaving (otherwise you might be charged for an extra day). There is the chain of hotels CALLED Extended Stay, but Marriott for example has Residence Inn, their most deluxe long term stay hotel, but includes a buffet breakfast (nice way to live if you could afford it!), Plaza Suites, mid range and Fairfield, their least expensive. Other chains have other " suites " . There is Candlewood Suites. If you want to stay for a month or more, which will be your best deal, talk directly to manager and try to negiotate a rate. Their long term rates are really geared toward weeks and you can do better if you are going to stay a month or more. Also what rate they are willing to give you will vary by the season. Now one will pay a bit more since most hotels are fuller during the summertime, unless hotel is situated in a business area. I paid 44 a day, but no utilities, or other costs. It's alot of money but I had to get out right away as I was very sick. There was another couple living there for a couple of months at same time. In a couple of months I had found a landlord that was willing to rent to me on a month to month basis that was old but in good repair. I had alot of cleaning to do though, as anything dirty makes me feel sick lately. --- In , " mich2604 " <mich2604@...> wrote: > > Thanks Barb, > > there was a bit of a smell in the laundry room of this house, but it
Guest guest
HI - I discoverd mold in my place by being gone for about 5 days - and have done that a few times since as only place have any problems only thingt is each time away and feel better more aware of mildew when back - anyways - not sure what area you are in - also have short term furnished rentals which can be stepp although if factoringf in buying new mattress etc... plus moving right away can be of use - or sublets - on craigslist have found some - of course cleaner ones cost more - yet a good temporary option and weekly rates not bad considering get a nice no iotel place short term . Also, with bigger companies short term rentals, lower deposits, can stay like a hotel or actually rent . I am researching this a bit since not a lot of vacancies anywhere near where live / work since have pets so fewer options as more reading about risks of staying here while waiting for answer from owner more want to do something as soon as done with finals next week - luckily have friends I can spend night with in meantime. but it is a temp. trade off - some areas just harder to move around in and urban areas get a lot of people lookijg at this time of year when people finish school/ good luck - and if in a bug area - let me know and can get you some names for short term places - -- In , " mich2604 " <mich2604@...> wrote: > > Thanks Barb, > > there was a bit of a smell in the laundry room of this house, but it > has a door and the rest of the house doesnt have an odor...but i will > see when i go back this week. > > > Do most cities have extended stay motels?
