I am on my way to see my doc...actually a new doc...just found out my other doc

is no longer working there so they have replaced her!! While I am there I want

to ask for certain tests to be done for my thyroid but not exactly what ones I

need done.

Can someone give me a clue as to what to ask for? I want to be firm and require

more than just the TSH they do. I know that there is free T4 and free T3 but

what about the adrenals? Iron? I want to get it all ordered in one shot and not

have to play around with them.

Thank you for your help.

What is your diagnosis?

Is this your primary care doc, a hormone specialist, and endo?

You will be lucky to get a Free T4 from your primary care doc. If you want a Free T3, you may need to call the lab and ask their code for Free T3 (not T3 uptake, not Total T3) and ask the doc to write it in, as it is not on most lab forms.

In the future, I would suggest that you arrange to have your blood draw a week or two ahead of your appointment, so you can discuss the results with your doc instead of playing phone tag with the nurse or "medical assistant".

Ok well, that didn't work out so well. The tests she ordered were free t4 & t3 and tsh. At least that is a start? I asked her to test the adrenals told her I failed the light in the eye test and I told her when I went in there that I wanted my thyroid meds upped. She said I just cant do that without looking at everything else because it could be a mired of things, including my ovaries. I said seriously? I have done all the tests for the things you are talking about and nothing. I asked her to at least test my adrenals and she just said, yes it could be those too. I had my book right there in the office so maybe that ticked her off a bit?

My diagnosis....well back in 90 after a resting pulse of 153 and couldn't sleep all that jazz that goes with hyperthyroid (didn't know it at the time) they did all these tests that turned up nothing and then they said come back Monday and we will do a thyroid test...well Sunday when I woke up it looked like I weighed 300 lbs in my neck alone! My thyroid blew up they said. Because it didn't have any nodes? In it they didn't do surgery and gave me "the drink". After that I remember being on something called ptu for a while and then to synthroid for 10 years or more. Then insurance just accepted the levothyroxine and that is what I had been on til these last 8 months when my doc switched me to np thyroid because I'd spent months begging her too because it was like I wasn't on thyroid meds at all. And my dose then was 200mg. Now I am on 1.5 grains and the symptoms are back even worse than when I was on the synthetic stuff. I am sweating profusely, I am so dang tired, I am losing my hair so much so that it is very thin and I had thick hair! And I am gaining no matter what I eat and one good thing is I have gone from 3 periods a month down to 2. I am just tired of being tired and losing my hair. I am afraid I will be bald soon. Besides other things going on..those are my main ones. So I guess I said all that to say I was told I had hyperthyroidism w/ graves but as I read the book and see what others post it sounds more to me like hashi's? Can one go from graves to that? Or could it have been wrong to begin with? My eyes don't bulge in the slightest nor have they ever...I was told back then that the graves part would be having eyes like Barbara bush. My husband read on hashi's and said that sounds like you honey. LOL

This is my primary doc.

So what gives? I feel like I am going to die before they get there butts in gear. That's just what it feels like. I know y'all know.

We shall see what the tests say....if anything.

Thanks for letting me vent...I am just so flustered! Why wont they listen?
