Guest guest
Faye: I bought it from the ADA web site. They have lots of books and other useful information including several of the " Month of Meals " series. One hint, thought. If you look at the list of books and plan on buying several, join the ADA first as you get a discount on the books if you are a member. I bought the several books, and after getting them, I joined in order to get their magazine, Diabetes Forecast. The Month of Meals would be very useful for someone who needs the menu suggestions. (Stomach acid is so caustic it's like hydrochloric acid.) Many of us just can't seem to digest all those grains, it is believed. If we think back to our ancestors, over the past 500,000 years humans have not been ingesting all this grain. A generation ago, our diet was 42% fats. Now it is 32% fats, the difference devoted to carbohydrates. We are fatter now than we were then - and type 2 diabetes rates are galloping ever higher. I have read on several web sites that acid reflux is strongly linked to obesity. But is it connected to obesity, or to insulin resistance and diabetes? The diabetes syndrome sets us up for obesity. Not every obese person is diabetic, but a big majority of type 2 diabetics are obese. We have a problem handling carbohydrates - but most of us find it's the processed grains that spiks us the worst. Maybe acid reflux is our suffering stomach ranting, " Get that dang stuff outta me!! " When our bodies misbehave, they are telling us something is wrong. And we must listen, or risk serious illness. Our bodies are very good at saving themselves. And in fact that is what type 2 diabetes is all about. In modern times we have been feeding ourselves too many carbohydrates, and for those of us who cannot handle them, our pancreas churns out more and more insulin to deal with it ... so much insulin that we eventually become " immune " to it (insulin resistance).
